Hadith #453
Arabic Text
وَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَيْنَمَا أَنَا نَائِمٌ رَأَيْتُ أَنِّي أَنْزِعُ عَلَى حَوْضِي أَسْقِي النَّاسَ فَأَتَانِي أَبُو بَكْرٍ فَأَخَذَ الدَّلْوَ مِنْ يَدِي لِيُرِفَّهُ حَتَّى نَزَعَ ذَنُوبًا أَوْ ذَنُوبَيْنِ وَفِي نَزْعِهِ ضَعْفٌ قَالَ فَأَتَانِي ابْنُ الْخَطَّابِ وَاللَّهُ يَغْفِرُ لَهُ فَأَخَذَهَا مِنِّي فَلَمْ يَنْزِعْ رَجُلٌ حَتَّى تَوَلَّى النَّاسُ وَالْحَوْضُ يَتَفَجَّرُ
English Translation
the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'While I was sleeping, I saw myself drawing water at my basin, giving people to drink. Abu Bakr came and took the bucket from my hand to relieve me, and he drew one or two buckets, and there was some weakness in his drawing — may Allah forgive him. Then Umar ibn al-Khattab came and took it from him. I never saw a leader among the people work as vigorously as he did, until the people had quenched their thirst and the camels had knelt down by the water.'
