Abu Hurayrah رضي الله عنه reported: When the delegation of Abd al-Qays arrived, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Welcome to the delegation — not disgraced and not regretful.' They said: 'O Messenger of Allah, we are a clan from Rabi'ah, and between us and you are the disbelievers of Mudar, so we can only reach you during the sacred months. Command us with something decisive that we may enter Paradise by it and call those behind us to it.' He said: 'I command you with four things and forbid you from four things: I command you to believe in Allah alone — do you know what belief in Allah alone means? It is to testify that there is no god but Allah, establish the prayer, give the zakah, and to give one-fifth of the war gains.'
