English Translation
Zayd ibn Yahya al-Dimashqi narrated to us, 'Abdullah ibn al-'Ala' ibn Zabr narrated to us, he said: I heard al-Qasim, the freed slave of Yazid, saying: Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه) narrated to me that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'While a man was walking, he became very thirsty. He found a well, descended into it, drank, then came out. He found a dog panting and eating mud from thirst. The man said: This dog is suffering from thirst just as I was. He descended into the well, filled his shoe with water, held it with his mouth, climbed up, and gave the dog water to drink. Allah appreciated his deed and forgave him.' They said: 'O Messenger of Allah, is there reward for us in serving animals?' He said: 'In every living being there is reward.'
