حَدَّثَنَا شُعَيْبُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ أَبُو صَالِحٍ بِمَكَّةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ حَدَّثَن
َا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ رَبِيعَةَ عَنْ الْأَعْرَجِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا سَمِعْتُمْ نُهَاقَ الْحَمِيرِ بِاللَّيْلِ فَتَعَوَّذُوا بِاللَّهِ مِنْ شَرِّهَا فَإِنَّهَا رَأَتْ شَيْطَانًا وَإِذَا سَمِعْتُمْ صُرَاخَ الدِّيَكَةِ بِاللَّيْلِ فَاسْأَلُوا اللَّهَ مِنْ فَضْلِهِ فَإِنَّهَا رَأَتْ مَلَكًا

English Translation
Shu'ayb ibn Harb Abu Salih narrated to us in Makkah, he said: Layth ibn Sa'd narrated to us, Ja'far ibn Rabi'ah narrated to us, from al-A'raj, from Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Allah created mercy on the day He created it as one hundred parts. He withheld ninety-nine parts with Himself and sent down one part to the earth. From that one part comes all the compassion that creation shows to one another, such that an animal lifts its hoof from its offspring out of fear of stepping on it.'
