Hadith #584
Arabic Text
وَبِإِسْنَادِهِ قَالَ وَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ لَوْلَا أَنْ أَشُقَّ عَلَى أُمَّتِي مَا قَعَدْتُ خِلَافَ سَرِيَّةٍ تَغْدُو فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ وَلَكِنْ لَا أَجِدُ مَا أَحْمِلُهُمْ وَلَا يَجِدُونَ سَعَةً فَيَتْبَعُونِي وَلَا تَطِيبُ أَنْفُسُهُمْ أَنْ يَتَخَلَّفُوا بَعْدِي
English Translation
And with its chain of narration, he said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'By the One in Whose Hand is my soul, were it not that I would impose hardship on my Ummah, I would not have stayed behind from any military expedition going out in the way of Allah. But I do not find the means to carry them, nor do they find the means themselves, and it would grieve them to stay behind from me.'
