‏ ‏وَقَالَ ‏ ‏إِيَّاكُمْ ‏ ‏وَالْوِصَالَ ‏ ‏قَالُوا فَإِنَّكَ ‏ ‏تُوَاصِلُ ‏ ‏يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ إِنِّي لَسْتُ فِي ذَا مِثْلَكُمْ إِنِّي أَبِيتُ يُطْعِمُنِي رَبِّي وَيَسْقِينِي فَاكْلَفُوا مَا لَكُمْ بِهِ طَاقَةٌ ‏

English Translation

And he (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that 'Beware of fasting continuously (wisal).' They said: 'But you fast continuously, O Messenger of Allah.' He said: 'I am not like you in this regard. I spend the night while my Lord feeds me and gives me to drink. So take on only what you can bear.'
