Isma'il narrated to us, he said: Yunus, meaning Ibn 'Ubayd, informed us from al-Hasan, from Anas ibn Hakim al-Dabbi, that he became fearful during the time of Ziyad — or Ibn Ziyad — so he came to Madinah and met Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه). Abu Hurayrah asked him about his lineage, so he stated it. Abu Hurayrah said: "O young man, shall I narrate a hadith to you that perhaps Allah will benefit you by?" I said: "Yes, may Allah have mercy on you." He said: "The first thing people will be held accountable for on the Day of Resurrection is their prayer. Our Lord (عز وجل) will say to His angels — while He knows best: 'Look at My servant's prayer — did he complete it or was it deficient?' If it is complete, it will be recorded as complete. If something was lacking, He will say: 'See if My servant has any voluntary prayers.' If he has voluntary prayers, He will say: 'Complete My servant's obligatory prayers from his voluntary ones.' Then the rest of the deeds will be taken according to that." Yunus said: "And I believe he mentioned the Prophet ﷺ (as the source)."
