Hadith #252
Arabic Text
حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي عُقَيْلٌ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ أَبِي عُبَيْدٍ م
َوْلَى عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ يَقُولُ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَأَنْ يَحْتَزِمَ أَحَدُكُمْ حُزْمَةَ حَطَبٍ فَيَحْمِلَهَا عَلَى ظَهْرِهِ فَيَبِيعَهَا خَيْرٌ لَهُ مِنْ أَنْ يَسْأَلَ رَجُلًا يُعْطِيهِ أَوْ يَمْنَعُهُ

English Translation
Hajjaj narrated to us, he said: Layth narrated to us, he said: 'Uqayl narrated to me, from Ibn Shihab, from Abu 'Ubayd, the freed slave of 'Abd al-Rahman ibn 'Awf, that he heard Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه) saying: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "For one of you to gather a bundle of firewood and carry it on his back and sell it is better for him than to ask a man who may give him or may refuse him."
