Yahya ibn Sa'id narrated to us, who said: Abu Hayyan narrated to us, who said: Abu Zur'ah ibn 'Amr ibn Jarir narrated to us from Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه) who said: Meat was brought to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and the foreleg was presented to him — which he used to like — and he took a bite from it. Then he said: 'I am the leader of mankind on the Day of Resurrection. Do you know why? Allah (عز وجل) will gather the first and the last on a single plain where the caller can be heard by all of them and the sight encompasses them all. The sun will draw near, and people will experience such distress and anguish as they cannot bear. Some people will say to others: Do you not see what you are in? Do you not see what has reached you? Will you not look for someone to intercede for you with your Lord? Some people will say to others: Your father Adam! So they will come to Adam (عليه السلام) and say: O Adam, you are the father of mankind. Allah created you with His Hand, breathed into you from His spirit, and commanded the angels to prostrate to you. Intercede for us with your Lord! Do you not see what we are in? Do you not see what has reached us? Adam will say: My Lord (عز وجل) has become angry today with an anger the like of which He has never been angry before and will never be angry after. He forbade me from the tree and I disobeyed Him. Myself! Myself! Myself! Go to someone else. Go to Nuh. So they will come to Nuh (عليه السلام) and say: O Nuh, you are the first of the messengers to the people of the earth, and Allah called you a grateful servant. Intercede for us with your Lord! Do you not see what we are in? Do you not see what has reached us? Nuh will say: My Lord has become angry today with an anger the like of which He has never been angry before and will never be angry after, and I had a supplication that I used against my people. Myself! Myself! Go to someone else. Go to Ibrahim. So they will come to Ibrahim and say: O Ibrahim, you are the Prophet ﷺ of Allah and His Khalil from among the people of the earth. Intercede for us with your Lord! Do you not see what we are in? Do you not see what has reached us? Ibrahim will say to them: My Lord has become angry today with an anger the like of which He has never been angry before and will never be angry after — and he mentioned his lies. Myself! Myself! Go to someone else. Go to Musa (عليه السلام). So they will come to Musa and say: O Musa, you are the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Allah chose you with His messages and by speaking to you above all people. Intercede for us with your Lord! Do you not see what we are in? Do you not see what has reached us? Musa will say to them: My Lord has become angry today with an anger the like of which He has never been angry before and will never be angry after, and I killed a soul that I was not commanded to kill. Myself! Myself! Go to someone else. Go to 'Isa. So they will come to 'Isa and say: O 'Isa, you are the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and His Word that He cast unto Maryam, and a spirit from Him — he said: it is so — and you spoke to people in the cradle. Intercede for us with your Lord! Do you not see what we are in? Do you not see what has reached us? 'Isa will say to them: My Lord has become angry today with an anger the like of which He has never been angry before and will never be angry after — and he did not mention any sin. Go to someone else. Go to Muhammad ﷺ. So they will come to me and say: O Muhammad, you are the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the Seal of the Prophet ﷺs. Allah forgave you your past and future sins. Intercede for us with your Lord! Do you not see what we are in? Do you not see what has reached us? So I will go and come beneath the Throne and fall prostrate before my Lord (عز وجل). Then Allah will open for me and inspire me with praises and beautiful glorification of Him that He has not opened for anyone before me. It will be said: O Muhammad, raise your head. Ask and you shall be given. Intercede and your intercession shall be accepted. So I will say: O Lord, my Ummah! My Ummah! O Lord, my Ummah! My Ummah! O Lord, my Ummah! My Ummah! O Lord! He will say: O Muhammad, admit from your Ummah those who have no reckoning upon them through the right gate of the gates of Paradise, and they share with people in the other gates. Then he ﷺ said: By the One in Whose Hand is the soul of Muhammad, the distance between the two panels of one gate of Paradise is like the distance between Makkah and Hajar, or like the distance between Makkah and Busra.'

When the man persisted, Abu Bakr responded to some of what he said, so the Prophet ﷺ became angry and got up. Abu Bakr followed him and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, he was insulting me while you were sitting, but when I responded to some of what he said, you became angry and got up.' He ﷺ said: 'There was an angel with you responding on your behalf, but when you responded to some of what he said, Shaytan came, and I would not sit with Shaytan.' Then he said: 'O Abu Bakr, three things are all true: No servant is wronged with an injustice and overlooks it for the sake of Allah (عز وجل) except that Allah will strengthen his support because of it. No man opens a door of giving intending to maintain family ties except that Allah will increase him in abundance because of it. And no man opens a door of begging intending to increase his wealth except that Allah (عز وجل) will increase him in poverty because of it.'
