Hadith #260

English Translation

Muhammad ibn Ja'far and Hajjaj narrated to us, they said: Shu'bah narrated to us, from 'Asim ibn Bahdala, from Dhakwan, from Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه), from the Prophet ﷺ, that they said: "O Messenger of Allah, one of us has thoughts in his mind that he would rather not speak of, even if he had everything on earth." He said: "That is the pure essence of faith." Mu'awiyah narrated to us, he said: Za'idah narrated to us, from 'Asim, with its chain, he said: "It is from the affairs of the Lord (عز وجل)." Bahz narrated to us, he said: Shu'bah narrated to us, he said: 'Alqamah ibn Marthad narrated to me, he said: I heard Abu al-Rabi' — who used to sit with Abu Burdah — narrating from Abu Hurayrah that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Four things in my ummah..." and he mentioned the hadith similar to the narration of Muhammad ibn Ja'far.
