Hadith #407
Arabic Text
وَبِإِسْنَادِهِ هَذَا أُتِيَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِتَمْرٍ مِنْ تَمْرِ الصَّدَقَةِ فَأَمَرَ فِيهِ بِأَمْرٍ ثُمَّ حَمَلَ الْحَسَنَ أَوْ الْحُسَيْنَ عَلَى عَاتِقِهِ وَإِذَا لُعَابُهُ يَسِيلُ فَنَظَرَ إِلَيْهِ فَإِذَا هُوَ يَلُوكُ تَمْرَةً مِنْ تَمْرِ الصَّدَقَةِ قَالَ فَقَالَ أَلْقِهَا أَمَا شَعَرْتَ أَنَّ آلَ مُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَا يَأْكُلُونَ الصَّدَقَةَ
English Translation
With the same chain: "the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was brought some dates from the charity dates, and he gave instructions regarding them. Then he carried al-Hasan — or al-Husayn — on his shoulder, and his saliva was dripping. He looked at him and found him chewing a date from the charity dates. He said: 'Spit it out! Do you not know that the family of Muhammad (ﷺ) do not eat from charity?'"
