English Translation
Ya'la and Muhammad, the two sons of 'Ubayd, narrated to us saying: al-Hasan ibn al-Hakam narrated to us from 'Adi ibn Thabit, from a shaykh of the Ansar, from Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه) who said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Whoever settles in the desert becomes coarse, whoever follows hunting becomes heedless, and whoever comes to the doors of the rulers is put to trial. A servant does not draw closer to the ruler except that he draws further from Allah (عز وجل).'
