English Translation
Jarir narrated to us, from 'Umarah ibn al-Qa'qa', from Abu Zur'ah, from Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه), who said: When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would say the opening takbir in prayer, he would remain silent for a moment. I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, may my father and mother be sacrificed for you, I notice your silence between the takbir and the recitation — what do you say during it?' He said: 'I say: O Allah, distance me from my sins as You have distanced the East from the West. O Allah, cleanse me of my sins as a white garment is cleansed of filth. O Allah, wash my sins with water, snow, and hail.'
