Chain of Narration (Isnad)

‏ ‏وَبِإِسْنَادِهِ هَذَا ‏ ‏نَهَى عَنْ ‏ ‏الْوِصَالِ ‏ ‏قَالُوا إِنَّكَ ‏ ‏تُوَاصِلُ ‏ ‏

Body (Matn)

قَالَ إِنِّي لَيْسَ مِثْلَكُمْ إِنِّي أَظَلُّ عِنْدَ رَبِّي يُطْعِمُنِي وَيَسْقِينِي ‏ ‏اكْلَفُوا ‏ ‏مِنْ الْأَعْمَالِ مَا تُطِيقُونَ ‏

Isnad Chain

‏ ‏وبإسناده هذا ‏ ‏نهىcompanion

‏ ‏وبإسناده هذا ‏ ‏نهى

English Translation

And with this same chain of narration, [the Prophet ﷺ] prohibited continuous fasting (wisal). They said: 'But you fast continuously.' He said: 'I am not like you. I spend the night with my Lord, and He feeds me and gives me drink. Take upon yourselves of deeds only what you can bear.'
