حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ بْنُ عَمْرٍو حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ نَافِعٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ طَاوُسٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ ضَرَبَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَثَلَ الْبَخِيلِ وَالْمُتَصَدِّقِ كَمَثَلِ رَجُلَيْنِ عَلَيْهِمَا جُبَّتَانِ مِنْ حَدِيدٍ قَدْ اضْطُرَّتْ أَيْدِيهِمَا إِلَى ثَدْيَيْهِمَا و
َتَرَاقِيهِمَا فَجَعَلَ الْمُتَصَدِّقُ كُلَّمَا تَصَدَّقَ بِصَدَقَةٍ انْبَسَطَتْ عَنْهُ حَتَّى تَغْشَى أَنَامِلَهُ وَتَعْفُوَ أَثَرَهُ وَجَعَلَ الْبَخِيلُ كُلَّمَا هَمَّ بِصَدَقَةٍ قَلَصَتْ كُلُّ حَلْقَةٍ وَأَخَذَتْ بِمَكَانِهَا قَالَ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ فَأَنَا رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ بِإِصْبَعَيْهِ فِي جُبَّتِهِ فَلَوْ رَأَيْتَهُ يُوَسِّعُهَا وَلَا تُوَسَّعُ

English Translation
Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه) narrated: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ struck a parable of the miser and the one who gives charity — like two men wearing iron coats of mail from their chests to their collarbones. When the charitable one spends, the coat expands over his body until it covers his fingertips and erases his footsteps. And when the miser wants to spend, every ring clings tightly to its place, and he tries to widen it but it does not expand.
