English Translation

Abu Usamah narrated to us, al-Walid ibn Kathir narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ka'b, from 'Ubaydullah ibn 'Abdullah — Abu Usamah once said: from 'Ubaydullah ibn 'Abd al-Rahman ibn 'Abdullah — from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (رضي الله عنه) who said: 'While the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was distributing something, a man from Banu Tamim came and said: "Be just, O Muhammad!" He said: "Woe to you! Who will be just if I am not just? You would fail and be at loss if I were not just." 'Umar said: "O Messenger of Allah, give me permission and I will strike his neck." He said: "Leave him, for he has companions whose prayer and fasting any of you would look down upon in comparison. They will recite the Quran but it will not go past their collarbones. They will pass through Islam as an arrow passes through game."'
