حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ حَدَّثَنَا فِطْرٌ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ رَجَاءٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّ م
ِنْكُمْ مَنْ يُقَاتِلُ عَلَى تَأْوِيلِهِ كَمَا قَاتَلْتُ عَلَى تَنْزِيلِهِ قَالَ فَقَامَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرُ فَقَالَ لَا وَلَكِنْ خَاصِفُ النَّعْلِ وَعَلِيٌّ يَخْصِفُ نَعْلَهُ

English Translation
Waki' narrated to us, Fitr narrated to us, from Isma'il ibn Raja', from his father, from Abu Sa'id (رضي الله عنه) who said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Indeed, among you is one who will fight for the interpretation of this Quran as I fought for its revelation.' Abu Bakr said: Is it me, O Messenger of Allah? He said: 'No.' 'Umar said: Is it me, O Messenger of Allah? He said: 'No, but it is the one who is mending the sandal.' And 'Ali (رضي الله عنه) was mending his sandal at the time.
