English Translation
Abu al-Nadr narrated to us, Sharik narrated to us, from 'Abdullah ibn Muhammad ibn 'Aqil, from Sa'id ibn al-Musayyab, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (رضي الله عنه), from the Prophet ﷺ, that a woman came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: O Messenger of Allah, my husband Safwan ibn al-Mu'attal strikes me when I pray, makes me break my fast, and does not pray the Fajr prayer until the sun rises. Safwan was present, so the Prophet ﷺ asked him. He said: O Messenger of Allah, as for her saying that I strike her when she prays, she recites two surahs and I have forbidden her from that. He ﷺ said: 'If it were one surah, it would suffice the people.' He said: As for her saying that I make her break her fast, she goes on fasting and I am a young man and I cannot be patient. the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'No woman should fast except with the permission of her husband.' He said: As for her saying that I do not pray until the sun rises, we are a household known for that; we can hardly wake up until the sun rises. He said: 'Then when you wake up, pray.'
