English Translation

Isma'il narrated to us, Sa'id informed us, from Abu Nadrah, from Abu Sa'id (رضي الله عنه) who said: When Khaybar was conquered, we Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ fell upon that plant — meaning garlic — and ate it, for we were hungry. Then we went to the masjid. the Messenger of Allah ﷺ detected its odor and said: 'Whoever eats anything from this foul-smelling plant, let him not approach our masjid.' The people said: 'It has been prohibited, it has been prohibited.' This reached the Prophet ﷺ and he said: 'O people, I cannot prohibit what Allah has made lawful, but it is a plant whose odor I dislike.'
