حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثٌ وثَنَا الْخُزَاعِيُّ أَخْبَرَنَا لَيْثٌ حَدَّثَنِي سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ مَوْلَى الْمَهْرِيِّ أَنَّهُ جَاءَ أَبَا سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيَّ لَيَالِي الْحَرَّةِ فَاسْتَشَ
ارَهُ فِي الْجَلَاءِ مِنْ الْمَدِينَةِ وَشَكَا إِلَيْهِ أَسْعَارَهَا وَكَثْرَةَ عِيَالِهِ وَأَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّهُ لَا صَبْرَ لَهُ عَلَى جَهْدِ الْمَدِينَةِ فَقَالَ وَيْحَكَ لَا آمُرُكَ بِذَلِكَ إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ لَا يَصْبِرُ أَحَدٌ عَلَى جَهْدِ الْمَدِينَةِ وَلَأْوَائِهَا فَيَمُوتُ إِلَّا كُنْتُ لَهُ شَفِيعًا أَوْ شَهِيدًا يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ إِذَا كَانَ مُسْلِمًا

English Translation
Hajjaj narrated to us, Layth narrated to us; and al-Khuza'i narrated to us, Layth informed us, Sa'id ibn Abi Sa'id narrated to me, from Abu Sa'id, freed slave of al-Mahri, that he came to Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (رضي الله عنه) during the nights of al-Harrah and consulted him about leaving Madinah and complained to him about its high prices and his large family, and informed him that he could not bear the hardship of Madinah. He said to him: 'Woe to you! I shall not advise you to do that, for I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: No one bears its hardship and tribulation patiently except that I will be an intercessor — or a witness — for him on the Day of Resurrection.'
