حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ عَنْ ثَابِتٍ الْبُنَانِيِّ عَنْ أَنَسٍ أَوْ غَيْرِهِ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ اسْتَأْذَنَ عَلَى سَعْدِ بْنِ عُبَادَةَ فَقَالَ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ فَقَالَ سَعْدٌ وَعَلَيْكَ السَّلَامُ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَلَمْ يُسْمِعْ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَتَّى سَلَّمَ ثَلَاثًا وَرَدَّ عَلَيْهِ سَعْدٌ ثَلَاثًا وَلَمْ يُسْمِعْهُ فَرَجَعَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَس
َلَّمَ وَاتَّبَعَهُ سَعْدٌ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ بِأَبِي أَنْتَ وَأُمِّي مَا سَلَّمْتَ تَسْلِيمَةً إِلَّا هِيَ بِأُذُنِي وَلَقَدْ رَدَدْتُ عَلَيْكَ وَلَمْ أُسْمِعْكَ أَحْبَبْتُ أَنْ أَسْتَكْثِرَ مِنْ سَلَامِكَ وَمِنْ الْبَرَكَةِ ثُمَّ أَدْخَلَهُ الْبَيْتَ فَقَرَّبَ لَهُ زَبِيبًا فَأَكَلَ نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ قَالَ أَكَلَ طَعَامَكُمْ الْأَبْرَارُ وَصَلَّتْ عَلَيْكُمْ الْمَلَائِكَةُ وَأَفْطَرَ عِنْدَكُمْ الصَّائِمُونَ

English Translation
'Abd al-Razzaq narrated to us: Ma'mar informed us from Thabit al-Bunani, from Anas — or someone else — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sought permission to enter upon Sa'd ibn 'Ubadah (رضي الله عنه) and said: 'Al-salamu 'alaykum wa rahmatullah.' Sa'd said: 'Wa 'alaykum al-salam wa rahmatullah' — but he said it quietly. the Prophet ﷺ gave salam a second time, and Sa'd responded quietly. Then a third time, and Sa'd responded quietly. So the Prophet ﷺ turned back. Sa'd followed him and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, may my father and mother be sacrificed for you, you have not given a single greeting except that I heard it and responded to you, but I wanted to increase your greetings upon me and my household.' So the Prophet ﷺ entered.
