حَدَّثَنَا أَسْوَدُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ ثُمَامَةَ عَنْ أَنَسٍ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَرَجَ إِلَيْهِمْ فِي رَمَضَانَ فَخَفَّفَ بِهِمْ ثُمَّ دَخَلَ فَأَطَالَ ثُمَّ خَر
َجَ فَخَفَّفَ بِهِمْ ثُمَّ دَخَلَ فَأَطَالَ فَلَمَّا أَصْبَحْنَا قُلْنَا يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ جَلَسْنَا اللَّيْلَةَ فَخَرَجْتَ إِلَيْنَا فَخَفَّفْتَ ثُمَّ دَخَلْتَ فَأَطَلْتَ قَالَ مِنْ أَجْلِكُمْ

English Translation
Aswad ibn 'Amir narrated to us, Hammad ibn Salamah narrated to us, from Thumamah, from Anas (رضي الله عنه), that the Prophet ﷺ came out to them in Ramadan and led them in prayer, making it light. Then he entered and prayed at length. Then he came out and led them, making it light. Then he entered and prayed at length. By morning, the people said: 'the Prophet ﷺ made the prayer light for us in congregation, then prayed at length when alone.' the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'That is because your imam was praying behind you (i.e., addressing Allah on your behalf).'
