Waki' narrated to us, from Sufyan, from Khalid al-Hadhdha', from Abu Qilabah, from Anas (رضي الله عنه) who said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'The most merciful of my ummah toward my ummah is Abu Bakr. The most strict of them in the religion of Allah is 'Umar. The most genuinely modest of them is 'Uthman. The most knowledgeable of them regarding what is lawful and unlawful is Mu'adh ibn Jabal. The most learned of them in the obligatory shares of inheritance is Zayd ibn Thabit. The most proficient of them in Quran recitation is Ubayy ibn Ka'b. Every nation has a trustworthy guardian, and the trustworthy guardian of this ummah is Abu 'Ubaydah ibn al-Jarrah.'
