Hadith #1Ungraded

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏غَسَّانُ بْنُ مُضَرَ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏سَعِيدٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ يَزِيدَ أَبُو مَسْلَمَةَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏سَأَلْتُ ‏ ‏أَنَسًا ‏ ‏أَكَانَ النَّبِيُّ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏يَقْرَأُ ‏ { ‏بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ ‏} ‏أَوْ ‏ { ‏الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ ‏} ‏فَقَالَ ‏ ‏إِنَّكَ لَتَسْأَلُنِي عَنْ شَيْءٍ مَا أَحْفَظُهُ أَوْ مَا سَأَلَنِي أَحَدٌ قَبْلَكَ ‏

Ghassan ibn Mudar narrated to us, Sa'id — meaning Ibn Yazid, Abu Maslamah — narrated to us, he said: I asked Anas (رضي الله عنه): 'Did the Prophet ﷺ recite Bismillah al-Rahman al-Rahim or Al-Hamdu lillahi Rabb al-'Alamin (to begin the Fatihah)?' He said: 'You are asking me about something that no one has asked me about.' He said: 'I prayed behind the Prophet ﷺ, Abu Bakr, 'Umar, and 'Uthman (رضي الله عنهم), and they would begin with Al-Hamdu lillahi Rabb al-'Alamin. I did not hear any of them recite Bismillah al-Rahman al-Rahim (aloud).'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏حَجَّاجٌ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏لَيْثٌ ‏ ‏قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي ‏ ‏سَعِيدٌ يَعْنِي الْمَقْبُرِيَّ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏شَرِيكِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي نَمِرٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ‏ ‏أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏قَامَ فَحَذَّرَ النَّاسَ فَقَامَ ‏ ‏رَجُلٌ ‏ ‏فَقَالَ مَتَى السَّاعَةُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏فَبَسَرَ ‏ ‏رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏فِي وَجْهِهِ فَقُلْنَا لَهُ اقْعُدْ فَإِنَّكَ قَدْ سَأَلْتَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏مَا يَكْرَهُ قَالَ ثُمَّ قَامَ الثَّانِيَةَ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ مَتَى السَّاعَةُ قَالَ ‏ ‏فَبَسَرَ ‏ ‏رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏فِي وَجْهِهِ أَشَدَّ مِنْ الْأُولَى فَأَجْلَسْنَاهُ قَالَ ثُمَّ قَامَ الثَّالِثَةَ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏مَتَى السَّاعَةُ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏وَيْحَكَ ‏ ‏وَمَا أَعْدَدْتَ لَهَا قَالَ أَعْدَدْتُ لَهَا حُبَّ اللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏اجْلِسْ فَإِنَّكَ مَعَ مَنْ أَحْبَبْتَ ‏

Hajjaj narrated to us, Layth narrated to us, he said: Sa'id — meaning al-Maqburi — narrated to me, from Sharik ibn 'Abdillah ibn Abi Namir, from Anas ibn Malik (رضي الله عنه), that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood and warned the people. A man stood and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, who is my father?' He said: 'Your father is so-and-so.' Then the verse was revealed: {O you who believe, do not ask about things which, if made clear to you, would trouble you} [5:101].

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْمُثَنَّى ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏حُمَيْدٌ الطَّوِيلُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ‏ ‏أَنَّ ‏ ‏الرُّبَيِّعَ بِنْتَ النَّضْرِ ‏ ‏عَمَّةَ ‏ ‏أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ‏ ‏كَسَرَتْ ‏ ‏ثَنِيَّةَ ‏ ‏جَارِيَةٍ فَعَرَضُوا عَلَيْهِمْ ‏ ‏الْأَرْشَ ‏ ‏فَأَبَوْا وَطَلَبُوا الْعَفْوَ فَأَبَوْا فَأَبَوْا النَّبِيَّ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏فَأَمَرَ ‏ ‏بِالْقِصَاصِ ‏ ‏فَجَاءَ أَخُوهَا ‏ ‏أَنَسُ بْنُ النَّضْرِ ‏ ‏عَمُّ ‏ ‏أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ‏ ‏فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَتُكْسَرُ ‏ ‏ثَنِيَّةُ ‏ ‏الرُّبَيِّعِ ‏ ‏لَا وَالَّذِي بَعَثَكَ بِالْحَقِّ لَا تُكْسَرُ ‏ ‏ثَنِيَّتُهَا ‏ ‏فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏يَا ‏ ‏أَنَسُ ‏ ‏كِتَابُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏الْقِصَاصُ ‏ ‏قَالَ فَعَفَا الْقَوْمُ قَالَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏إِنَّ مِنْ عِبَادِ اللَّهِ مَنْ لَوْ أَقْسَمَ عَلَى اللَّهِ ‏ ‏لَأَبَرَّهُ ‏

Muhammad ibn 'Abdillah ibn al-Muthanna narrated to us, Humayd al-Tawil narrated to us, from Anas ibn Malik (رضي الله عنه), that al-Rubayyi' bint al-Nadr — the aunt of Anas ibn Malik — broke the front tooth of a girl. They offered them the blood money (arsh) but they refused. They demanded retaliation (qisas). Anas ibn al-Nadr came and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, shall al-Rubayyi's tooth be broken? By the One Who sent you with the truth, her tooth shall not be broken!' the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'O Anas, the Book of Allah prescribes retaliation.' Then the people (the injured party) agreed to accept the blood money. the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Among the servants of Allah are those who, if they swore by Allah, He would fulfill their oath.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏عَاصِمٌ الْأَحْوَلُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَنَسٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏سَأَلْتُهُ عَنْ ‏ ‏الْقُنُوتِ ‏ ‏أَقَبْلَ الرُّكُوعِ أَوْ بَعْدَ الرُّكُوعِ فَقَالَ قَبْلَ الرُّكُوعِ قَالَ قُلْتُ فَإِنَّهُمْ يَزْعُمُونَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏قَنَتَ ‏ ‏بَعْدَ الرُّكُوعِ فَقَالَ كَذَبُوا إِنَّمَا ‏ ‏قَنَتَ ‏ ‏رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏شَهْرًا يَدْعُو عَلَى نَاسٍ قَتَلُوا نَاسًا مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ يُقَالُ لَهُمْ الْقُرَّاءُ ‏

Abu Mu'awiyah narrated to us, 'Asim al-Ahwal narrated to us, from Anas (رضي الله عنه), he said: I asked him about the qunut — was it before the bowing or after it? He said: 'Before the bowing.' I said: 'They claim that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed qunut after the bowing.' He said: 'He only performed qunut after the bowing for a short time (one month), because he sent some people called the reciters (al-qurra'), about seventy men, to some polytheists. They had a covenant between them and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, but they betrayed and killed them. So he performed qunut after bowing for one month, supplicating against them.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏دَعَانَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏لِيَكْتُبَ لَنَا ‏ ‏بِالْبَحْرَيْنِ ‏ ‏قَطِيعَةً ‏ ‏قَالَ فَقُلْنَا لَا إِلَّا أَنْ تَكْتُبَ لِإِخْوَانِنَا مِنْ ‏ ‏الْمُهَاجِرِينَ ‏ ‏مِثْلَهَا فَقَالَ ‏ ‏إِنَّكُمْ سَتَلْقَوْنَ بَعْدِي ‏ ‏أَثَرَةً ‏ ‏فَاصْبِرُوا حَتَّى تَلْقَوْنِي قَالُوا فَإِنَّا نَصْبِرُ ‏

Abu Mu'awiyah narrated to us, Yahya ibn Sa'id narrated to us, from Anas ibn Malik (رضي الله عنه) who said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ summoned us to write a grant for us in Bahrain. We said: 'We will not accept unless you write the same for our brothers from the Muhajirun (emigrants).' He said: 'It will be for you soon, if Allah wills.' We said: 'Write the same for our Muhajir brothers.' So the Prophet ﷺ said: 'You will find people after me who will be given preference over you, so be patient until you meet me at the Hawd (Pool).'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ أَبِي إِسْمَاعِيلَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عُمَارَةَ بْنِ عَاصِمٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏دَخَلْتُ عَلَى ‏ ‏أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ‏ ‏بِالْكُوفَةِ ‏ ‏فَسَأَلْتُهُ عَنْ ‏ ‏النَّبِيذِ ‏ ‏فَقَالَ ‏ ‏نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏الدُّبَّاءِ ‏ ‏وَالْمُزَفَّتِ ‏

Ibn Numayr narrated to us, Muhammad — meaning Ibn Abi Isma'il — narrated to us, from 'Umarah ibn 'Asim who said: I entered upon Anas ibn Malik (رضي الله عنه) in Kufa and asked him about nabidh (date drink). He said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prohibited the following vessels for nabidh: al-hantam (green-glazed jars), al-dubba' (gourds), al-naqir (hollowed tree trunks), and al-muzaffat (pitch-coated vessels).

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عُمَرَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏نُفَيْعٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏سَمِعْتُ ‏ ‏أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ ‏ ‏قِيلَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ كَيْفَ يُحْشَرُ النَّاسُ عَلَى وُجُوهِهِمْ قَالَ ‏ ‏إِنَّ الَّذِي أَمْشَاهُمْ عَلَى أَرْجُلِهِمْ قَادِرٌ عَلَى أَنْ يُمْشِيَهُمْ عَلَى وُجُوهِهِمْ ‏

Ibn Numayr narrated to us, Isma'il ibn 'Umar narrated to us, from Nufay' who said: I heard Anas ibn Malik (رضي الله عنه) — it was said: 'O Messenger of Allah, how will people be gathered on their faces?' He said: 'The One Who made them walk on their feet is able to make them walk on their faces.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏يَحْيَى ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ‏ ‏أَنَّ أَعْرَابِيًّا أَتَى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏فَقَضَى حَاجَتَهُ ثُمَّ قَامَ إِلَى جَانِبِ الْمَسْجِدِ قَالَ فَصَاحَ بَعْضُ النَّاسِ فَكَفَّهُمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏ثُمَّ ‏ ‏أَمَرَ ‏ ‏بِذَنُوبٍ ‏ ‏مِنْ مَاءٍ فَصُبَّ عَلَى بَوْلِهِ ‏

Ibn Numayr narrated to us, Yahya narrated to us, from Anas ibn Malik (رضي الله عنه), that a Bedouin came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and relieved himself. Then he went to a corner of the mosque (and urinated). Some people shouted at him, but the Messenger of Allah ﷺ restrained them. When he finished, the Prophet ﷺ ordered that a bucket of water be poured over it.

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏يَعْلَى ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏إِسْمَاعِيلُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏نُفَيْعٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏مَا مِنْ أَحَدٍ غَنِيٍّ وَلَا فَقِيرٍ إِلَّا يَوَدُّ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ أَنَّهُ كَانَ أُوتِيَ فِي الدُّنْيَا ‏ ‏قُوتًا ‏

Ya'la narrated to us, Isma'il narrated to us, from Nufay', from Anas ibn Malik (رضي الله عنه) who said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'There is no one, rich or poor, except that he will wish on the Day of Resurrection that he had been given only enough sustenance in the world.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏يَعْلَى ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مِسْعَرٌ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏بُكَيْرِ بْنِ الْأَخْنَسِ ‏ ‏قَالَ سَمِعْتُ ‏ ‏أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ ‏ ‏يَقُولُ ‏ ‏مُرَّ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏بِبَدَنَةٍ ‏ ‏أَوْ هَدِيَّةٍ ‏ ‏فَقَالَ لِصَاحِبِهَا ‏ ‏ارْكَبْهَا فَقَالَ إِنَّهَا بَدَنَةٌ ‏ ‏أَوْ هَدِيَّةٌ ‏ ‏قَالَ وَإِنْ ‏

Ya'la narrated to us, Mis'ar narrated to us, from Bukayr ibn al-Akhnas, he said: I heard Anas ibn Malik (رضي الله عنه) saying: A sacrificial camel (badanah) — or a gift — was passed before the Prophet ﷺ, and he said to its owner: 'Ride it.' He said: 'It is a sacrificial camel.' He said: 'Ride it.' He said: 'It is a sacrificial camel.' He said: 'Ride it, woe to you!' — on the third time.

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏أَبُو كَامِلٍ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏حَمَّادٌ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏ثَابِتٍ الْبُنَانِيِّ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَنَسٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏إِذَا أَوَى إِلَى فِرَاشِهِ قَالَ ‏ ‏الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَطْعَمَنَا وَسَقَانَا وَكَفَانَا وَآوَانَا فَكَمْ مَنْ لَا كَافِيَ لَهُ وَلَا مُؤْوِيَ ‏

Abu Kamil narrated to us, Hammad narrated to us, from Thabit al-Bunani, from Anas (رضي الله عنه) who said: the Prophet ﷺ, when he retired to his bed, would say: 'All praise is due to Allah Who has fed us, given us drink, sufficed us, and sheltered us. How many are those who have no one to suffice them or shelter them.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏أَبُو كَامِلٍ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏حَمَّادٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ سَلَمَةَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏قَتَادَةَ ‏ ‏وَثَابِتٍ ‏ ‏وَحُمَيْدٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ‏ ‏أَنَّ رَجُلًا جَاءَ وَقَدْ ‏ ‏حَفَزَهُ ‏ ‏النَّفَسُ فَقَالَ ‏ ‏اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ حَمْدًا كَثِيرًا طَيِّبًا مُبَارَكًا فِيهِ فَلَمَّا قَضَى النَّبِيُّ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏صَلَاتَهُ قَالَ أَيُّكُمْ الْمُتَكَلِّمُ ‏ ‏بِالْكَلِمَاتِ فَإِنَّهُ لَمْ يَقُلْ بَأْسًا فَقَالَ الرَّجُلُ أَنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ جَلَسْتُ وَقَدْ ‏ ‏حَفَزَنِي ‏ ‏النَّفَسُ فَقُلْتُهُنَّ فَقَالَ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏لَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ اثْنَيْ عَشَرَ مَلَكًا ‏ ‏يَبْتَدِرُونَهَا ‏ ‏أَيُّهُمْ يَرْفَعُهَا ‏

Abu Kamil narrated to us, Hammad — meaning Ibn Salamah — narrated to us, from Qatadah, Thabit, and Humayd, from Anas ibn Malik (رضي الله عنه), that a man came panting and said: 'Allahu Akbar! All praise be to Allah, abundant, good, and blessed praise.' the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'I saw twelve angels racing to see which of them would take it up (to Allah).'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏أَبُو كَامِلٍ ‏ ‏أَنْبَأَنَا ‏ ‏حَمَّادٌ ‏ ‏قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا ‏ ‏قَتَادَةُ ‏ ‏وَثَابِتٌ ‏ ‏وَحُمَيْدٌ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ‏ ‏أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏وَأَبَا بَكْرٍ ‏ ‏وَعُمَرَ ‏ ‏وَعُثْمَانَ ‏ ‏كَانُوا ‏ ‏يَسْتَفْتِحُونَ الْقُرْآنَ ‏ ‏بِالْحَمْدِ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ ‏

Abu Kamil narrated to us, Hammad informed us, he said: Qatadah, Thabit, and Humayd informed us, from Anas ibn Malik (رضي الله عنه), that the Prophet ﷺ, Abu Bakr, 'Umar, and 'Uthman (رضي الله عنهم) used to begin the recitation with Al-Hamdu lillahi Rabb al-'Alamin (Praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds).

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏أَبُو كَامِلٍ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏حَمَّادٌ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏ثَابِتٌ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَنَسٍ ‏ ‏أَنَّ ‏ ‏رَجُلًا ‏ ‏سَأَلَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏عَنْ قِيَامِ السَّاعَةِ وَأُقِيمَتْ الصَّلَاةُ فَلَمَّا قَضَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏صَلَاتَهُ قَالَ ‏ ‏أَيْنَ السَّائِلُ عَنْ السَّاعَةِ فَقَالَ الرَّجُلُ هَا أَنَا ذَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَقَالَ وَمَا أَعْدَدْتَ لَهَا فَإِنَّهَا قَائِمَةٌ قَالَ مَا أَعْدَدْتُ لَهَا مِنْ كَبِيرِ عَمَلٍ غَيْرَ أَنِّي أُحِبُّ اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ قَالَ فَأَنْتَ مَعَ مَنْ أَحْبَبْتَ قَالَ فَمَا فَرِحَ الْمُسْلِمُونَ بِشَيْءٍ بَعْدَ الْإِسْلَامِ أَشَدَّ مِمَّا فَرِحُوا بِهِ ‏

Abu Kamil narrated to us, Hammad narrated to us, Thabit narrated to us, from Anas (رضي الله عنه), that a man asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about the establishment of the Hour, and the prayer was called. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ finished the prayer, he said: 'Where is the one who asked about the Hour?' The man said: 'Here I am, O Messenger of Allah.' He said: 'What have you prepared for it?' He said: 'I have not prepared for it much prayer or fasting, but I love Allah and His Messenger.' He said: 'You will be with those whom you love.' Anas said: Nothing made us happier than the saying of the Prophet ﷺ: 'You will be with those whom you love.' Anas said: I love the Prophet ﷺ, Abu Bakr, and 'Umar, and I hope to be with them because of my love for them.

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏حَجَّاجُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏لَيْثٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ سَعْدٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي ‏ ‏عُقَيْلٌ ‏ ‏عَنِ ‏ ‏ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي ‏ ‏أَنَسُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ ‏ ‏أَنَّهُ كَانَ ابْنَ عَشْرِ سِنِينَ مَقْدِمَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏الْمَدِينَةَ ‏ ‏قَالَ وَكَانَ ‏ ‏أُمَّهَاتِي يُوطِئْنَنِي عَلَى خِدْمَةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏فَكُنْتُ أَعْلَمَ النَّاسِ بِشَأْنِ الْحِجَابِ حِينَ أُنْزِلَ وَكَانَ أَوَّلَ مَا أُنْزِلَ ‏ ‏ابْتَنَى ‏ ‏رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏بِزَيْنَبَ بِنْتِ جَحْشٍ ‏ ‏أَصْبَحَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏بِهَا عَرُوسًا فَدَعَا الْقَوْمَ فَأَصَابُوا مِنْ الطَّعَامِ ثُمَّ خَرَجُوا وَبَقِيَ ‏ ‏رَهْطٌ ‏ ‏مِنْهُمْ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏فَأَطَالُوا ‏ ‏الْمُكْثَ ‏ ‏فَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏فَخَرَجَ وَخَرَجْتُ مَعَهُ لِكَيْ يَخْرُجُوا فَمَشَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏وَمَشَيْنَا مَعَهُ حَتَّى جَاءَ عَتَبَةَ حُجْرَةِ ‏ ‏عَائِشَةَ ‏ ‏وَظَنَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏أَنَّهُمْ قَدْ خَرَجُوا فَرَجَعَ وَرَجَعْتُ مَعَهُ فَإِذَا هُمْ قَدْ خَرَجُوا فَضَرَبَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَهُمْ بِسِتْرٍ وَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ الْحِجَابَ ‏

Hajjaj ibn Muhammad narrated to us, Layth — meaning Ibn Sa'd — narrated to us, he said: 'Uqayl narrated to me, from Ibn Shihab, he said: Anas ibn Malik al-Ansari (رضي الله عنه) narrated to me that he was ten years old when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ arrived in Madinah. He said: My mother and aunts used to urge me to serve the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. I served him for ten years, and he passed away when I was twenty. I was the most knowledgeable of people about his prayer. He used to pray at night as long as Allah willed, then he would sleep as long as Allah willed, then he would wake up until dawn.

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏حَجَّاجٌ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏لَيْثٌ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏عُقَيْلٌ ‏ ‏عَنِ ‏ ‏ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ‏ ‏أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏لَوْ أَنَّ لِابْنِ ‏ ‏آدَمَ ‏ ‏وَادِيًا مِنْ ذَهَبٍ لَأَحَبَّ أَنْ يَكُونَ لَهُ وَادٍ آخَرُ وَلَا يَمْلَأُ فَاهُ إِلَّا التُّرَابُ وَيَتُوبُ اللَّهُ عَلَى مَنْ تَابَ ‏

Hajjaj narrated to us, Layth narrated to us, 'Uqayl narrated to us, from Ibn Shihab, from Anas ibn Malik (رضي الله عنه), that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'If the son of Adam had a valley full of gold, he would want another valley. Nothing fills the belly of the son of Adam except dust. And Allah accepts the repentance of whoever repents.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏حَجَّاجٌ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏لَيْثٌ ‏ ‏قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي ‏ ‏بُكَيْرٌ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي سُلَيْمَانَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ‏ ‏أَنَّهُ قَالَ ‏ ‏صَلَّيْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏بِمِنًى ‏ ‏رَكْعَتَيْنِ ‏ ‏وَمَعَ ‏ ‏أَبِي بَكْرٍ ‏ ‏رَكْعَتَيْنِ ‏ ‏وَمَعَ ‏ ‏عُمَرَ ‏ ‏رَكْعَتَيْنِ ‏ ‏وَمَعَ ‏ ‏عُثْمَانَ ‏ ‏رَكْعَتَيْنِ ‏ ‏صَدْرًا ‏ ‏مِنْ ‏ ‏إِمَارَتِهِ ‏

Hajjaj narrated to us, Layth narrated to us, he said: Bukayr narrated to me, from Muhammad ibn 'Abdillah ibn Abi Sulayman, from Anas ibn Malik (رضي الله عنه) who said: I prayed with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at Mina — two rak'ahs. And with Abu Bakr — two rak'ahs. And with 'Umar — two rak'ahs. And with 'Uthman in the beginning of his rule — two rak'ahs. Then 'Uthman later completed them (to four).

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏حَجَّاجٌ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏لَيْثٌ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنِي ‏ ‏سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏شَرِيكِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي نَمِرٍ ‏ ‏أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ ‏ ‏أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ ‏ ‏يَقُولُ ‏ ‏بَيْنَمَا نَحْنُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏جُلُوسًا فِي الْمَسْجِدِ دَخَلَ رَجُلٌ عَلَى جَمَلٍ ‏ ‏فَأَنَاخَهُ ‏ ‏فِي الْمَسْجِدِ ‏ ‏فَعَقَلَهُ ‏ ‏ثُمَّ قَالَ أَيُّكُمْ ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدٌ ‏ ‏رَسُولُ اللَّهِ وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏مُتَّكِئٌ بَيْنَ ‏ ‏ظَهْرَانَيْهِمْ ‏ ‏قَالَ فَقُلْنَا هَذَا الرَّجُلُ الْأَبْيَضُ الْمُتَّكِئُ فَقَالَ الرَّجُلُ يَا ‏ ‏ابْنَ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ ‏ ‏فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏قَدْ أَجَبْتُكَ فَقَالَ الرَّجُلُ إِنِّي يَا ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدُ ‏ ‏سَائِلُكَ فَمُشَدِّدٌ عَلَيْكَ فِي الْمَسْأَلَةِ فَلَا تَجِدْ عَلَيَّ فِي نَفْسِكَ فَقَالَ سَلْ مَا بَدَا لَكَ فَقَالَ الرَّجُلُ ‏ ‏نَشَدْتُكَ ‏ ‏بِرَبِّكَ وَرَبِّ مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكَ ‏ ‏آللَّهُ أَرْسَلَكَ إِلَى النَّاسِ كُلِّهِمْ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏اللَّهُمَّ نَعَمْ قَالَ ‏ ‏فَأَنْشُدُكَ ‏ ‏اللَّهَ ‏ ‏آللَّهُ أَمَرَكَ أَنْ نُصَلِّيَ الصَّلَوَاتِ الْخَمْسَ فِي الْيَوْمِ وَاللَّيْلَةِ قَالَ اللَّهُمَّ نَعَمْ قَالَ ‏ ‏فَأَنْشُدُكَ ‏ ‏اللَّهَ ‏ ‏آللَّهُ أَمَرَكَ أَنْ نَصُومَ هَذَا الشَّهْرَ مِنْ السَّنَةِ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏اللَّهُمَّ نَعَمْ قَالَ ‏ ‏أَنْشُدُكَ ‏ ‏اللَّهَ ‏ ‏آللَّهُ أَمَرَكَ أَنْ تَأْخُذَ هَذِهِ ‏ ‏الصَّدَقَةَ ‏ ‏مِنْ أَغْنِيَائِنَا فَتُقَسِّمَهَا عَلَى فُقَرَائِنَا قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏اللَّهُمَّ نَعَمْ قَالَ الرَّجُلُ آمَنْتُ بِمَا جِئْتَ بِهِ وَأَنَا رَسُولُ مَنْ وَرَائِي مِنْ قَوْمِي قَالَ وَأَنَا ‏ ‏ضِمَامُ بْنُ ثَعْلَبَةَ ‏ ‏أَخُو ‏ ‏بَنِي سَعْدِ بْنِ بَكْرٍ ‏

Hajjaj narrated to us, Layth narrated to us, Sa'id ibn Abi Sa'id narrated to me, from Sharik ibn 'Abdillah ibn Abi Namir, that he heard Anas ibn Malik (رضي الله عنه) saying: While we were sitting with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the mosque, a man came on a camel. He made it kneel in the mosque, hobbled it, then said: 'Which of you is Muhammad?' the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was reclining among them. We said: 'This white-skinned reclining man.' The man said to him: 'O son of 'Abd al-Muttalib.' the Prophet ﷺ said: 'I have answered you.' The man asked several questions about the pillars of Islam, and the Prophet ﷺ confirmed each one. The man said: 'I am a messenger from those behind me.' It was said: 'This is Dimam ibn Tha'labah.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏شُعْبَةُ ‏ ‏وَحَجَّاجٌ ‏ ‏قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي ‏ ‏شُعْبَةُ ‏ ‏قَالَ سَمِعْتُ ‏ ‏قَتَادَةَ ‏ ‏يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ ‏ ‏أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏لَمَّا أَرَادَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏أَنْ يَكْتُبَ إِلَى ‏ ‏الرُّومِ ‏ ‏قَالُوا إِنَّهُمْ لَا يَقْرَءُونَ كِتَابًا إِلَّا مَخْتُومًا قَالَ ‏ ‏فَاتَّخَذَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏خَاتَمًا مِنْ فِضَّةٍ كَأَنِّي أَنْظُرُ إِلَى بَيَاضِهِ فِي يَدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏نَقْشُهُ ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدٌ ‏ ‏رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏

Muhammad ibn Ja'far narrated to us, Shu'bah narrated to us — and Hajjaj said: Shu'bah narrated to me — he said: I heard Qatadah narrating from Anas ibn Malik (رضي الله عنه) who said: When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wanted to write to the Romans, it was said to him: 'They do not read a letter unless it has a seal.' So he had a silver ring made, with the engraving 'Muhammad Rasul Allah' (Muhammad, Messenger of Allah). It is as if I can still see its whiteness on his hand.

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏شُعْبَةُ ‏ ‏قَالَ سَمِعْتُ ‏ ‏قَتَادَةَ ‏ ‏يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ ‏ ‏أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ النَّبِيِّ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏يَهْرَمُ ‏ ‏ابْنُ ‏ ‏آدَمَ ‏ ‏وَيَبْقَى مِنْهُ اثْنَتَانِ الْحِرْصُ وَالْأَمَلُ ‏

Muhammad ibn Ja'far narrated to us, Shu'bah narrated to us, he said: I heard Qatadah narrating from Anas ibn Malik (رضي الله عنه), from the Prophet ﷺ who said: 'The son of Adam grows old, but two things remain young in him: greed and hope.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏حَجَّاجٌ ‏ ‏قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي ‏ ‏شُعْبَةُ ‏ ‏قَالَ سَمِعْتُ ‏ ‏قَتَادَةَ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏أَنَسُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ ‏ ‏أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏كَانَ يَقُولُ ‏ ‏إِنَّ الْخَيْرَ خَيْرُ الْآخِرَةِ ‏ ‏أَوْ قَالَ ‏ ‏اللَّهُمَّ لَا خَيْرَ إِلَّا خَيْرُ ‏ ‏الْآخِرَهْ ‏ ‏فَاغْفِرْ ‏ ‏لِلْأَنْصَارِ ‏ ‏وَالْمُهَاجِرَهْ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏شُعْبَةُ ‏ ‏فَكَانَ ‏ ‏قَتَادَةُ ‏ ‏يَقُولُ ‏ ‏هَذَا فِي قَصَصِهِ ‏

Hajjaj narrated to us, he said: Shu'bah narrated to me, he said: I heard Qatadah — Anas ibn Malik (رضي الله عنه) narrated to us — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to say: 'The (true) good is the good of the Hereafter' — or he said: 'O Allah, there is no good except the good of the Hereafter, so forgive the Ansar and the Muhajirun.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏حَجَّاجٌ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنِي ‏ ‏شُعْبَةُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي صَدَقَةَ ‏ ‏مَوْلَى ‏ ‏أَنَسٍ ‏ ‏وَأَثْنَى عَلَيْهِ ‏ ‏شُعْبَةُ ‏ ‏خَيْرًا ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏سَأَلْتُ ‏ ‏أَنَسًا ‏ ‏عَنْ صَلَاةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏فَقَالَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏يُصَلِّي الظُّهْرَ إِذَا زَالَتْ الشَّمْسُ وَالْعَصْرَ بَيْنَ صَلَاتَيْكُمْ هَاتَيْنِ وَالْمَغْرِبَ إِذَا غَرَبَتْ الشَّمْسُ وَالْعِشَاءَ إِذَا غَابَ ‏ ‏الشَّفَقُ ‏ ‏وَالصُّبْحَ إِذَا طَلَعَ الْفَجْرُ إِلَى أَنْ يَنْفَسِحَ الْبَصَرُ ‏

Hajjaj narrated to us, Shu'bah narrated to me, from Abu Sadaqah, the freed slave of Anas — and Shu'bah spoke well of him — he said: I asked Anas (رضي الله عنه) about the prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pray Dhuhr when the sun declined. And he would pray 'Asr between these two prayers (Dhuhr and Maghrib). And he would pray Maghrib when the sun had set. And he would pray 'Isha' when the twilight had disappeared. And he would pray Fajr — a man would leave and could not recognize the face of the person sitting next to him, or he would recognize him.

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏حَجَّاجٌ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏شُعْبَةُ ‏ ‏أَنْبَأَنَاهُ عَنْ ‏ ‏هِشَامِ بْنِ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏جَدِّهِ ‏ ‏أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏دَخَلْتُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏وَهُوَ ‏ ‏يَسِمُ ‏ ‏غَنَمًا ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏هِشَامٌ ‏ ‏أَحْسَبُهُ قَالَ فِي آذَانِهَا ‏ ‏قَالَ ثُمَّ قَالَ بَعْدُ فِي آذَانِهَا وَلَمْ يَشُكَّ ‏

Hajjaj narrated to us, Shu'bah informed us, from Hisham ibn Zayd ibn Anas, from his grandfather Anas ibn Malik (رضي الله عنه) who said: I entered upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was branding sheep. Hisham said: I think he said — on their ears.

Hajjaj narrated to us, Shu'bah narrated to me, from Mansur, from Rib'i ibn Hirash, from Abu al-Abyad — a man from Banu 'Amir — from Anas ibn Malik (رضي الله عنه) who said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would pray 'Asr while the sun was still high and bright. A person would then go to al-'Awali (the outskirts of Madinah) and arrive while the sun was still high.

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏حَجَّاجٌ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏سُلَيْمَانُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ الْمُغِيرَةِ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏ثَابِتٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏قُلْتُ حَدِّثْنَا بِشَيْءٍ شَهِدْتَهُ مِنْ هَذِهِ الْأَعَاجِيبِ لَا تُحَدِّثْنَا بِهِ عَنْ غَيْرِكَ قَالَ صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏الظُّهْرَ وَقَعَدَ عَلَى الْمَقَاعِدِ الَّتِي كَانَ يَأْتِيهِ عَلَيْهَا ‏ ‏جِبْرِيلُ ‏ ‏عَلَيْهِ السَّلَام ‏ ‏قَالَ فَجَاءَ ‏ ‏بِلَالٌ ‏ ‏فَآذَنَهُ بِصَلَاةِ الْعَصْرِ فَقَالَ مَنْ كَانَ لَهُ أَهْلٌ بَعِيدٌ ‏ ‏بِالْمَدِينَةِ ‏ ‏لِيَقْضِيَ حَاجَتَهُ وَيُصِيبَ مِنْ الْوَضُوءِ وَبَقِيَ نَاسٌ مِنْ ‏ ‏الْمُهَاجِرِينَ ‏ ‏لَيْسَ لَهُمْ أَهْلُونَ ‏ ‏بِالْمَدِينَةِ ‏ ‏قَالَ فَأَتَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏بِقَدَحٍ ‏ ‏أَرْوَحَ فِي أَسْفَلِهِ شَيْءٌ مِنْ مَاءٍ قَالَ ‏ ‏فَوَضَعَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏كَفَّهُ فِي ‏ ‏الْقَدَحِ ‏ ‏فَمَا وَسِعَتْ كَفَّهُ فَوَضَعَ أَصَابِعَهُ هَؤُلَاءِ الْأَرْبَعَ ثُمَّ قَالَ ادْنُوا فَتَوَضَّئُوا قَالَ فَتَوَضَّئُوا حَتَّى مَا بَقِيَ مِنْهُمْ أَحَدٌ إِلَّا تَوَضَّأَ ‏ ‏فَقُلْنَا ‏ ‏يَا ‏ ‏أَبَا حَمْزَةَ ‏ ‏كَمْ ‏ ‏تُرَاهُمْ كَانُوا قَالَ ‏ ‏بَيْنَ السَّبْعِينَ إِلَى الثَّمَانِينَ ‏

Hajjaj narrated to us, Sulayman — meaning Ibn al-Mughirah — narrated to us, from Thabit, from Anas ibn Malik (رضي الله عنه). I said: 'Tell us of something you witnessed from these wonders — do not tell us from someone else.' He said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed Dhuhr with us one day. When he finished, he ascended the minbar and pointed toward the direction of the mosque's qiblah and said: 'I have been shown just now, since I prayed, Paradise and Hellfire depicted on this wall. I have never seen such good and such evil as today.' He said it three times.

Abd al-Samad narrated to us, Za'idah narrated to us, al-A'mash narrated to us, he said: It was narrated to me, from Anas (رضي الله عنه), from the Prophet ﷺ, that he said: 'The people with the longest necks on the Day of Resurrection will be the mu'adhdhins (callers to prayer).'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏شُعْبَةُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي التَّيَّاحِ ‏ ‏قَالَ سَمِعْتُ ‏ ‏أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏لَمَّا فُتِحَتْ ‏ ‏مَكَّةُ ‏ ‏قَالَ قَسَمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏الْغَنَائِمَ فِي ‏ ‏قُرَيْشٍ ‏ ‏فَقَالَتْ ‏ ‏الْأَنْصَارُ ‏ ‏إِنَّ هَذَا لَهُوَ الْعَجَبُ إِنَّ سُيُوفَنَا ‏ ‏تَقْطُرُ ‏ ‏مِنْ دِمَائِهِمْ وَإِنَّ غَنَائِمَنَا تُرَدُّ عَلَيْهِمْ فَبَلَغَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏فَجَمَعَهُمْ فَقَالَ مَا هَذَا الَّذِي بَلَغَنِي عَنْكُمْ فَقَالُوا هُوَ الَّذِي بَلَغَكَ وَكَانُوا لَا يَكْذِبُونَ فَقَالَ ‏ ‏أَمَا تَرْضَوْنَ أَنْ يَرْجِعَ النَّاسُ بِالدُّنْيَا وَتَرْجِعُونَ بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏إِلَى بُيُوتِكُمْ لَوْ سَلَكَ النَّاسُ وَادِيًا ‏ ‏أَوْ ‏ ‏شِعْبًا ‏ ‏وَسَلَكَتْ ‏ ‏الْأَنْصَارُ ‏ ‏وَادِيًا ‏ ‏أَوْ ‏ ‏شِعْبًا ‏ ‏لَسَلَكْتُ وَادِيَ ‏ ‏الْأَنْصَارِ ‏ ‏أَوْ ‏ ‏شِعْبَ ‏ ‏الْأَنْصَارِ ‏

Muhammad ibn Ja'far narrated to us, Shu'bah narrated to us, from Abu al-Tayyah, he said: I heard Anas ibn Malik (رضي الله عنه) saying: When Makkah was conquered, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ distributed the spoils among the Quraysh. The Ansar said: 'This is strange — our swords are still dripping with their blood, yet our spoils are being given to them!' This reached the Prophet ﷺ, so he gathered the Ansar and said: 'Would you not be pleased that the people take the sheep and camels while you return with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to your homes?' They said: 'We are pleased.' He said: 'If the people took one path and the Ansar took another, I would take the path of the Ansar.'

Muhammad ibn Ja'far narrated to us, from Shu'bah, from Humayd, he said: I heard Anas ibn Malik (رضي الله عنه) saying: A man called out to another man in the marketplace: 'O Abu al-Qasim!' the Prophet ﷺ turned around. The man said: 'I only meant this person (not you).' the Prophet ﷺ said: 'Name yourselves with my name, but do not use my kunyah (Abu al-Qasim).'

Muhammad ibn Ja'far narrated to us, Shu'bah narrated to us, from Humayd, he said: I heard Anas ibn Malik (رضي الله عنه) saying: The Ansar said: 'We are the ones who gave the pledge of allegiance to Muhammad for jihad as long as we live.' the Messenger of Allah ﷺ responded: 'O Allah, there is no good except the good of the Hereafter, so honor the Ansar and the Muhajirun.'

Muhammad ibn Ja'far and Muhammad ibn Bakr narrated to us, they said: Shu'bah narrated to us — and al-Khuffaf — from Sa'id, from Qatadah, from Anas (رضي الله عنه), that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Complete the bowing and prostration. By Allah, I see you from behind my back when you bow and when you prostrate.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏سَعِيدٌ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏قَتَادَةَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ‏ ‏أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏رَأَى رَجُلًا يَسُوقُ ‏ ‏بَدَنَةً ‏ ‏فَقَالَ ‏ ‏ارْكَبْهَا قَالَ إِنَّهَا ‏ ‏بَدَنَةٌ ‏ ‏قَالَ ارْكَبْهَا قَالَ أَرْكَبُهَا قَالَ ارْكَبْهَا ‏

Muhammad ibn Ja'far narrated to us, Sa'id narrated to us, from Qatadah, from Anas ibn Malik (رضي الله عنه), that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw a man driving a sacrificial camel (badanah). He said: 'Ride it.' He said: 'It is a sacrificial camel.' He said: 'Ride it.' He said: 'Shall I ride it?' the Prophet ﷺ said: 'Ride it, woe to you!' — on the second or third time.

Muhammad ibn Ja'far narrated to us, Sa'id narrated to us, from Qatadah, from Anas ibn Malik (رضي الله عنه), that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to sacrifice two speckled (amlah) rams. He would slaughter them by his own hand, place his foot on their sides, and mention the name of Allah and say Allahu Akbar.

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏سَعِيدٌ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏قَتَادَةَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ‏ ‏أَنَّ ‏ ‏رَهْطًا ‏ ‏مِنْ ‏ ‏عُكْلٍ ‏ ‏أَوْ ‏ ‏عُرَيْنَةَ ‏ ‏أَتَوْا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏فَقَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّا كُنَّا أَهْلَ ضَرْعٍ وَلَمْ نَكُنْ أَهْلَ رِيفٍ ‏ ‏فَاسْتَوْخَمُوا ‏ ‏الْمَدِينَةَ ‏ ‏فَأَمَرَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏بِذَوْدٍ وَأَمَرَهُمْ أَنْ يَخْرُجُوا فِيهَا فَيَشْرَبُوا مِنْ أَلْبَانِهَا وَأَبْوَالِهَا فَقَتَلُوا ‏ ‏رَاعِيَ ‏ ‏رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏وَاسْتَاقُوا ‏ ‏الذَّوْدَ ‏ ‏وَكَفَرُوا بَعْدَ إِسْلَامِهِمْ فَبَعَثَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏فِي طَلَبِهِمْ فَأُتِيَ بِهِمْ فَقَطَّعَ أَيْدِيَهُمْ وَأَرْجُلَهُمْ ‏ ‏وَسَمَرَ ‏ ‏أَعْيُنَهُمْ وَتَرَكَهُمْ فِي ‏ ‏الْحَرَّةِ ‏ ‏حَتَّى مَاتُوا ‏

Muhammad ibn Ja'far narrated to us, he said: Sa'id narrated to us, from Qatadah, from Anas ibn Malik (رضي الله عنه), that a group from 'Ukl or 'Uraynah came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, we were people of livestock, not of agriculture.' They found the climate of Madinah disagreeable. the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered them to go to camels and drink their milk and urine. They did so until their bodies became healthy. Then they killed the herder and drove away the camels. the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent riders after them. They were brought back, and he had their hands and feet cut off and their eyes branded, and they were left in al-Harrah — asking for water but not being given any, until they died.

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏سَعِيدٌ ‏ ‏وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَكْرٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا ‏ ‏سَعِيدٌ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏قَتَادَةَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ‏ ‏أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏لَمَّا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَكْتُبَ إِلَى نَاسٍ مِنْ هَذِهِ ‏ ‏الْأَعَاجِمِ ‏ ‏قِيلَ لَهُ إِنَّهُمْ لَا يَقْبَلُونَ كِتَابًا إِلَّا بِخَاتَمٍ قَالَ ‏ ‏فَاتَّخَذَ خَاتَمًا مِنْ فِضَّةٍ نَقْشُهُ ‏ ‏وَقَالَ ‏ ‏ابْنُ بَكْرٍ ‏ ‏وَنَقْشُهُ ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدٌ ‏ ‏رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏كَأَنِّي أَنْظُرُ إِلَى بَصِيصِهِ ‏ ‏أَوْ بَيَاضِهِ ‏ ‏فِي يَدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏

Muhammad ibn Ja'far narrated to us, Sa'id narrated to us — and Muhammad ibn Bakr said: Sa'id informed us — from Qatadah, from Anas ibn Malik (رضي الله عنه), that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, when he wanted to write to some of the foreign rulers, was told: 'They do not accept a letter unless it has a seal.' So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had a silver ring made with the engraving 'Muhammad Rasul Allah.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي عَرُوبَةَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏قَتَادَةَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَنَسٍ ‏ ‏أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏وَزَيْدَ بْنَ ثَابِتٍ ‏ ‏تَسَحَّرَا فَلَمَّا فَرَغَا مِنْ سُحُورِهِمَا قَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏إِلَى الصَّلَاةِ فَصَلَّى ‏ ‏فَقُلْنَا ‏ ‏لِأَنَسٍ ‏ ‏كَمْ كَانَ بَيْنَ فَرَاغِهِمَا وَسُحُورِهِمَا وَدُخُولِهِمَا فِي الصَّلَاةِ قَالَ ‏ ‏كَانَ قَدْرَ مَا يَقْرَأُ رَجُلٌ خَمْسِينَ آيَةً ‏

Muhammad ibn Ja'far narrated to us, Sa'id ibn Abi 'Arubah narrated to us, from Qatadah, from Anas (رضي الله عنه), that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and Zayd ibn Thabit (رضي الله عنه) had their suhur (pre-dawn meal). When they finished their suhur, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood for prayer and prayed. We said to Anas: 'How much time was there between their finishing the suhur and entering the prayer?' He said: 'About the time it takes to recite fifty verses.'

Muhammad ibn Ja'far and Rawh narrated to us, they said: Sa'id narrated to us, from Qatadah, from Anas ibn Malik (رضي الله عنه) who said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Do not practice wisal (continuous fasting without breaking).' They said: 'But you practice wisal, O Messenger of Allah.' He said: 'I am not like any of you. My Lord feeds me and gives me drink.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏سَعِيدٌ ‏ ‏وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَكْرٍ ‏ ‏أَخْبَرَنَا ‏ ‏سَعِيدٌ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏قَتَادَةَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ‏ ‏أَنَّ يَهُودِيًّا قَتَلَ ‏ ‏جَارِيَةً ‏ ‏عَلَى ‏ ‏أَوْضَاحٍ ‏ ‏لَهَا ‏ ‏فَقَتَلَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏

Muhammad ibn Ja'far narrated to us, Sa'id narrated to us — and Muhammad ibn Bakr said: Sa'id informed us — from Qatadah, from Anas ibn Malik (رضي الله عنه), that a Jew killed a girl for her silver ornaments (awdah). the Messenger of Allah ﷺ killed him by crushing his head between two stones.

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏سَعِيدٌ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏قَتَادَةَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ‏ ‏أَنَّ نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏كَانَ ‏ ‏بِالزَّوْرَاءِ ‏ ‏فَأُتِيَ بِإِنَاءٍ فِيهِ مَاءٌ لَا يَغْمُرُ أَصَابِعَهُ فَأَمَرَ أَصْحَابَهُ أَنْ يَتَوَضَّئُوا ‏ ‏فَوَضَعَ كَفَّهُ فِي الْمَاءِ فَجَعَلَ الْمَاءُ يَنْبُعُ مِنْ بَيْنِ أَصَابِعِهِ وَأَطْرَافِ أَصَابِعِهِ حَتَّى تَوَضَّأَ الْقَوْمُ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏فَقُلْتُ ‏ ‏لِأَنَسٍ ‏ ‏كَمْ كُنْتُمْ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏كُنَّا ثَلَاثَ مِائَةٍ ‏

Muhammad ibn Ja'far narrated to us, Sa'id narrated to us, from Qatadah, from Anas ibn Malik (رضي الله عنه), that the Prophet ﷺ of Allah ﷺ was at al-Zawra' (a place in Madinah) when a vessel containing water was brought to him — the water barely covered his fingers. He ordered his Companions to perform wudu' from it, and they all performed wudu'. We said to Qatadah: 'How many were they?' He said: 'Three hundred, or approximately three hundred.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ بَكْرٍ ‏ ‏وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ‏ ‏قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏سَعِيدٌ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏قَتَادَةَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ‏ ‏أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏أَعْتَقَ ‏ ‏صَفِيَّةَ بِنْتَ حُيَيٍّ ‏ ‏وَجَعَلَ عِتْقَهَا ‏ ‏صَدَاقَهَا ‏

'Abdullah ibn Bakr and Muhammad ibn Ja'far narrated to us, they said: Sa'id narrated to us, from Qatadah, from Anas ibn Malik (رضي الله عنه), that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ freed Safiyyah bint Huyayy (رضي الله عنها) and made her freedom her mahr (dowry).

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏شُعْبَةُ ‏ ‏وَحَجَّاجٌ ‏ ‏قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي ‏ ‏شُعْبَةُ ‏ ‏سَمِعْتُ ‏ ‏قَتَادَةَ ‏ ‏يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ ‏ ‏أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏كَانَ فَزَعٌ ‏ ‏بِالْمَدِينَةِ ‏ ‏فَاسْتَعَارَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏فَرَسًا لَنَا يُقَالُ لَهُ مَنْدُوبٌ قَالَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏مَا رَأَيْنَا مِنْ فَزَعٍ وَإِنْ وَجَدْنَاهُ لَبَحْرًا ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏حَجَّاجٌ ‏ ‏يَعْنِي الْفَرَسَ ‏

Muhammad ibn Ja'far narrated to us, Shu'bah narrated to us — and Hajjaj said: Shu'bah narrated to me — I heard Qatadah narrating from Anas ibn Malik (رضي الله عنه) who said: There was an alarm in Madinah. the Messenger of Allah ﷺ borrowed a horse belonging to Abu Talhah (رضي الله عنه) called Mandub. He rode it and when he returned, he said: 'We found it to be a sea (extraordinarily swift).' Before that, it had been slow.

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏شُعْبَةُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي قَزَعَةَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏كُنْتُ ‏ ‏رَدِيفَ ‏ ‏أَبِي طَلْحَةَ ‏ ‏قَالَ وَكَانَتْ رُكْبَةُ ‏ ‏أَبِي طَلْحَةَ ‏ ‏تَكَادُ أَنْ تُصِيبَ رُكْبَةَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏فَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏يُهِلُّ ‏ ‏بِهِمَا ‏

Muhammad ibn Ja'far narrated to us, Shu'bah narrated to us, from Abu Qaz'ah, from Anas ibn Malik (رضي الله عنه) who said: I was riding behind Abu Talhah (رضي الله عنه), and the knee of Abu Talhah was nearly touching the knee of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He (Abu Talhah) said: 'I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ reciting talbiyah for both Hajj and 'Umrah together.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ‏ ‏وَحَجَّاجٌ ‏ ‏قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏شُعْبَةُ ‏ ‏قَالَ سَمِعْتُ ‏ ‏هِشَامَ بْنَ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏دَخَلْتُ مَعَ جَدِّي ‏ ‏أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ‏ ‏دَارَ ‏ ‏الْحَكَمِ بْنِ أَيُّوبَ ‏ ‏فَإِذَا قَوْمٌ قَدْ نَصَبُوا دَجَاجَةً يَرْمُونَهَا فَقَالَ ‏ ‏أَنَسٌ ‏ ‏نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏أَنْ ‏ ‏تُصْبَرَ ‏ ‏الْبَهَائِمُ ‏

Muhammad ibn Ja'far and Hajjaj narrated to us, they said: Shu'bah narrated to us, he said: I heard Hisham ibn Zayd ibn Anas ibn Malik saying: I entered with my grandfather Anas ibn Malik (رضي الله عنه) into the house of al-Hakam ibn Ayyub, and there were people who had set up a chicken as a target and were shooting at it. Anas said: 'the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prohibited using living creatures as targets.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ‏ ‏وَحَجَّاجٌ ‏ ‏قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏شُعْبَةُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏هِشَامِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏مَرَرْنَا ‏ ‏فَأَنْفَجْنَا ‏ ‏أَرْنَبًا ‏ ‏بِمَرِّ الظَّهْرَانِ ‏ ‏فَسَعَوْا عَلَيْهَا ‏ ‏فَلَغَبُوا ‏ ‏فَسَعَيْتُ حَتَّى أَدْرَكْتُهَا فَأَتَيْتُ بِهَا ‏ ‏أَبَا طَلْحَةَ ‏ ‏فَذَبَحَهَا فَبَعَثَ بِوَرِكِهَا ‏ ‏أَوْ فَخِذِهَا ‏ ‏إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏فَقَبِلَهُ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏حَجَّاجٌ ‏ ‏قُلْتُ ‏ ‏لِشُعْبَةَ ‏ ‏فَقُلْتُ ‏ ‏أَكَلَهُ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏نَعَمْ أَكَلَهُ قَالَ لِي بَعْدُ قَبِلَهُ ‏

Muhammad ibn Ja'far and Hajjaj narrated to us, they said: Shu'bah narrated to us, from Hisham ibn Zayd, from Anas ibn Malik (رضي الله عنه) who said: We passed by and flushed out a rabbit at Marr al-Dhahran. They chased it but grew tired. I chased it until I caught it. I brought it to Abu Talhah (رضي الله عنه), who slaughtered it and sent its hind legs — or thighs — to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he accepted them.

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ‏ ‏وَحَجَّاجٌ ‏ ‏قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏شُعْبَةُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏هِشَامِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ‏ ‏أَنَّ يَهُودِيًّا قَتَلَ ‏ ‏جَارِيَةً ‏ ‏عَلَى ‏ ‏أَوْضَاحٍ ‏ ‏لَهَا قَالَ فَقَتَلَهَا بِحَجَرٍ قَالَ فَجِيءَ بِهَا إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏وَبِهَا ‏ ‏رَمَقٌ ‏ ‏فَقَالَ لَهَا ‏ ‏قَتَلَكِ فُلَانٌ فَأَشَارَتْ بِرَأْسِهَا أَيْ لَا ثُمَّ قَالَ لَهَا الثَّانِيَةَ فَأَشَارَتْ بِرَأْسِهَا أَيْ لَا ثُمَّ سَأَلَهَا الثَّالِثَةَ فَقَالَتْ نَعَمْ وَأَشَارَتْ بِرَأْسِهَا فَقَتَلَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏بَيْنَ حَجَرَيْنِ ‏

Muhammad ibn Ja'far and Hajjaj narrated to us, they said: Shu'bah narrated to us, from Hisham ibn Zayd, from Anas ibn Malik (رضي الله عنه), that a Jew killed a girl for her silver ornaments. He killed her with a stone. She was brought to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with some life still in her. He said: 'Did so-and-so kill you?' She shook her head: 'No.' He said: 'Did so-and-so kill you?' She nodded: 'Yes.' the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered that his head be crushed between two stones.

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏شُعْبَةُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏هِشَامِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ سَمِعْتُ ‏ ‏أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏لِلْأَنْصَارِ ‏ ‏إِنَّكُمْ سَتَلْقَوْنَ بَعْدِي ‏ ‏أَثَرَةً ‏ ‏فَاصْبِرُوا حَتَّى تَلْقَوْنِي فَمَوْعِدُكُمْ الْحَوْضُ ‏

Muhammad ibn Ja'far narrated to us, Shu'bah narrated to us, from Hisham ibn Zayd, he said: I heard Anas ibn Malik (رضي الله عنه) saying: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to the Ansar: 'You will encounter preferential treatment (athara) after me. So be patient until you meet me at the Hawd (Pool of al-Kawthar).'
