English Translation
Ghassan ibn Mudar narrated to us, Sa'id — meaning Ibn Yazid, Abu Maslamah — narrated to us, he said: I asked Anas (رضي الله عنه): 'Did the Prophet ﷺ recite Bismillah al-Rahman al-Rahim or Al-Hamdu lillahi Rabb al-'Alamin (to begin the Fatihah)?' He said: 'You are asking me about something that no one has asked me about.' He said: 'I prayed behind the Prophet ﷺ, Abu Bakr, 'Umar, and 'Uthman (رضي الله عنهم), and they would begin with Al-Hamdu lillahi Rabb al-'Alamin. I did not hear any of them recite Bismillah al-Rahman al-Rahim (aloud).'
