Hadith #253
Arabic Text
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْمُثَنَّى حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدٌ عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ رَأَى نُخَامَةً فِي قِبْلَةِ الْمَسْجِدِ فَشَقَّ عَلَيْهِ حَتَّى عُرِفَ ذَاكَ فِي وَجْهِهِ فَحَكَّهُ وَقَالَ إِنَّ أَحَدَكُمْ أَوْ الْمَرْءَ إِذَا قَامَ إِلَى الصَّلَ
اةِ فَإِنَّهُ يُنَاجِي رَبَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ أَوْ رَبَّهُ بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ الْقِبْلَةِ فَلْيَبْزُقْ إِذَا بَزَقَ عَنْ يَسَارِهِ أَوْ تَحْتَ قَدَمِهِ وَأَوْمَأَ هَكَذَا كَأَنَّهُ فِي ثَوْبِهِ قَالَ وَكُنَّا نَقُولُ لِحُمَيْدٍ فَيَقُولُ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ مَنْ هُوَ يَعْنِي النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَلَا يَزِيدُنَا عَلَيْهِ

English Translation
Muhammad ibn 'Abdullah ibn al-Muthanna narrated to us, Humayd narrated to us, from Anas (رضي الله عنه) who said: He ﷺ saw mucus on the qiblah wall of the mosque, and it distressed him until it showed on his face. He scraped it off and said: 'When one of you — or a person — stands for prayer, he is in private conversation with his Lord. So let him not spit toward the qiblah, but rather beneath his left foot or in his garment.'
