Hadith #277

English Translation

Anas ibn Malik (رضي الله عنه) narrated: the Prophet ﷺ was sitting in the mosque when a man came in on a camel. He made it kneel in the mosque, hobbled it, then said: "Which of you is Muhammad?" the Prophet ﷺ was reclining among them, so they said: "This white-complexioned man reclining." The man said to him: "O son of 'Abd al-Muttalib." the Prophet ﷺ said: "I have answered you." The man said: "I am going to ask you a stern question, so do not take offense." He said: "Ask whatever occurs to you." He said: "I ask you by your Lord and the Lord of those before you: has Allah sent you to all the people?" He said: "O Allah, yes." He said: "I adjure you by Allah: has Allah commanded you to pray five prayers during the day and night?" He said: "O Allah, yes." He said: "I adjure you by Allah: has Allah commanded you to fast this month of the year?" He said: "O Allah, yes." He said: "I adjure you by Allah: has Allah commanded you to take this charity from our wealthy and distribute it among our poor?" the Prophet ﷺ said: "O Allah, yes." The man said: "I believe in what you have brought, and I am the envoy of those behind me from my people. I am Dimam ibn Tha'labah, brother of Banu Sa'd ibn Bakr."
