Arabic Text
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْأَعْلَى حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ أَنَّ أُمَّ سُلَيْمٍ سَأَلَتْ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَتْ تَرَى الْمَرْأَةُ مَا يَرَى الرَّجُلُ فِي مَنَامِهَا فَقَالَ نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا رَأَتْ مَا يَرَى الرَّجُلُ يَعْنِي
الْمَاءَ فَلْتَغْتَسِلْ قَالَتْ أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ أَوَيَكُونُ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَعَمْ مَاءُ الرَّجُلِ غَلِيظٌ أَبْيَضُ وَمَاءُ الْمَرْأَةِ رَقِيقٌ أَصْفَرُ فَمِنْ أَيِّهِمَا سَبَقَ أَوْ عَلَا قَالَ سَعِيدٌ نَحْنُ نَشُكُّ يَكُونُ الشَّبَهُ
Isnad Chain
English Translation
Anas ibn Malik (رضي الله عنه) narrated: Umm Sulaym asked the Prophet ﷺ: "A woman sees in her dream what a man sees [i.e., a wet dream]." the Prophet ﷺ of Allah (ﷺ) said: "If a woman sees that, she must perform ghusl." Umm Sulaym said: "I felt shy about that and said: 'Does that happen?'" the Prophet ﷺ said: "Yes, otherwise how does the child come to resemble [the mother]? The man's water is thick and white, and the woman's water is thin and yellow. Whichever of them prevails or comes first, the child resembles [that parent]."
