حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ أَخْبَرَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ ثَابِتٍ سَمِعَ أَنَسًا قَالَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَرْفَعُ يَدَيْهِ فِي الدُّعَاءِ حَتَّى يُرَى بَيَاضُ إِبِطَيْهِ فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ
لِعَلِيِّ بْنِ زَيْدٍ قَالَ إِنَّمَا ذَاكَ فِي الِاسْتِسْقَاءِ قَالَ قُلْتُ أَسَمِعْتَهُ مِنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ قَالَ قُلْتُ أَسَمِعْتَهُ مِنْهُ قَالَ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ

English Translation
Anas (رضي الله عنه) narrated: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to raise his hands in supplication until the whiteness of his armpits was visible. I mentioned that to 'Ali ibn Zayd, and he said: 'That was for istisqa' [prayer for rain] specifically.'
