حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ يُحَدِّثُ أَنَّ أُمَّهُ حِينَ وَلَدَتْ انْطَلَقُوا بِالصَّبِيِّ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَ
لَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِيُحَنِّكَهُ قَالَ فَإِذَا النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي مِرْبَدٍ يَسِمُ غَنَمًا قَالَ شُعْبَةُ وَأَكْبَرُ عِلْمِي أَنَّهُ قَالَ فِي آذَانِهَا

English Translation
Muhammad ibn Ja'far narrated to us, Shu'bah narrated to us, from Hisham ibn Zayd, who said: I heard Anas ibn Malik (رضي الله عنه) narrating that when his mother gave birth, they took the baby to the Prophet ﷺ to do tahnik for him. He said: the Prophet ﷺ was in the enclosure and had a branding iron with which he was branding his camels — or Shu'bah said: he was marking his sheep.
