English Translation

Arim narrated to us, Mu'tamir narrated to us, he said I heard my father narrating that Anas (رضي الله عنه) said: It was said to the Prophet ﷺ, 'Would you go to Abdullah ibn Ubayy?' So the Prophet ﷺ of Allah ﷺ went to him, riding a donkey, and the Muslims walked with him. The ground was salty. When the Prophet ﷺ came to him, he said, 'Keep away from me! By Allah, the stench of your donkey has annoyed me!' A man from the Ansar said, 'By Allah, the donkey of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ smells better than you!' A man from Abdullah's clan became angry on his behalf, and each side's people became angry, and there was a quarrel between them with palm branches. It was said that this verse was revealed regarding that incident: 'And if two factions among the believers should fight, then make settlement between the two' [al-Hujurat 49:9].
