English Translation
Yunus narrated to us, Hammad — meaning Ibn Salamah — narrated to us, from Ali ibn Zayd, from Anas ibn Malik (رضي الله عنه) who said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'When I was taken on the Night Journey, I passed by men whose lips were being cut with scissors of fire. I said, "Who are these, O Jibril?" He said, "These are the preachers of your ummah who used to command people to do good while forgetting to do it themselves, and they used to recite the Book but did not act upon it."'
