English Translation
Bahz narrated to us, Hammad — meaning Ibn Salamah — narrated to us, Ishaq ibn 'Abdullah narrated to us, from Anas ibn Malik (رضي الله عنه) that the Prophet ﷺ used to meet a man and say: 'O so-and-so, how are you?' He would reply: 'Good, I praise Allah.' the Prophet ﷺ would say to him: 'May Allah make you praiseworthy.' So the man continued saying 'I praise Allah' until the Prophet ﷺ met him and he looked disheveled. He said: 'O so-and-so, I see you looking changed.' He said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I have not stopped saying what you told me to say, and I have not ceased praising Allah.' the Prophet ﷺ said: 'Be careful, for it reached me that you were invited, and you did not accept.'
