Hadith #293
Arabic Text
حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ أَخْبَرَنَا حُمَيْدٌ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ قَالَ قَدِمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْمَدِينَةَ وَلَهُمْ يَوْمَانِ يَلْعَبُونَ فِيه
ِمَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَا هَذَانِ الْيَوْمَانِ قَالُوا كُنَّا نَلْعَبُ فِيهِمَا فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ قَالَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ قَدْ أَبْدَلَكُمْ بِهِمَا خَيْرًا مِنْهُمَا يَوْمَ الْفِطْرِ وَيَوْمَ النَّحْرِ
Isnad Chain
English Translation
'Affan narrated to us, Hammad narrated to us, Humayd informed us who said: I heard Anas ibn Malik (رضي الله عنه) say: 'the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to Madinah, and they had two days in which they would play and celebrate. the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: What are these two days? They said: We used to play in them during the Jahiliyyah. the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Allah has replaced them for you with two better days: the day of al-Adha and the day of al-Fitr.'
