حَدَّثَنَا هَاشِمٌ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ قَالَ قَالَ أَنَسُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ قَالَ أَصْحَابُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَل

َّمَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ أَصْحَابَ الْكِتَابِ يُسَلِّمُونَ عَلَيْنَا فَكَيْفَ نَرُدُّ عَلَيْهِمْ قَالَ قُولُوا وَعَلَيْكُمْ

English Translation

Hashim narrated to us, Shu'bah narrated to us, from Qatadah who said: Anas ibn Malik (رضي الله عنه) said: The Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'O Messenger of Allah, the People of the Book greet us with salam, so how should we respond to them?' He said, 'Say: wa alaykum (and upon you).'
