حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ حَدَّثَنَا ثَابِتٌ عَنْ أَنَسٍ أَنَّ النَّاسَ قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ هَلَكَ الْمَالُ وَأَقْحَطْنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَاسْتَسْقِ لَنَا فَقَامَ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ وَهُوَ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ فَاسْتَسْقَى وَصَفَ حَمَّادٌ وَبَسَطَ يَدَيْهِ حِيَالَ صَدْرِهِ وَبَطْنُ كَفَّيْهِ مِمَّا يَلِي الْأَرْضَ وَمَا فِي السَّمَاءِ قَزَعَةٌ فَمَا انْصَرَفَ حَتَّى أَهَمَّتْ ال
شَّابَّ الْقَوِيَّ نَفْسُهُ أَنْ يَرْجِعَ إِلَى أَهْلِهِ فَمُطِرْنَا إِلَى الْجُمُعَةِ الْأُخْرَى فَقَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ تَهَدَّمَ الْبُنْيَانُ وَانْقَطَعَ الرُّكْبَانُ ادْعُ اللَّهَ أَنْ يَكْشِطَهَا عَنَّا فَضَحِكَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَقَالَ اللَّهُمَّ حَوَالَيْنَا وَلَا عَلَيْنَا فَانْجَابَتْ حَتَّى كَانَتْ الْمَدِينَةُ كَأَنَّهَا فِي إِكْلِيلٍ

English Translation
Affan narrated to us, Hammad narrated to us, Thabit narrated to us, from Anas that the people said: 'O Messenger of Allah, the livestock have perished and there is drought. O Messenger of Allah, pray for rain for us.' He stood on the day of Jumu'ah while on the minbar and prayed for rain. Hammad described that he raised his hands and said: 'O Allah, send us rain. O Allah, send us rain.' The sky was clear, then clouds appeared and it poured until a man could barely reach his house. It continued raining until the next Friday. Then a man stood and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, the houses have been destroyed. Pray to Allah to stop it.' He ﷺ smiled and said: 'O Allah, around us and not upon us.' The clouds dispersed from Madinah to the right and to the left.
