Hadith #551

English Translation

Muhammad ibn Ja'far narrated to us, Shu'bah narrated to us, he said: I heard Qatadah narrating from Anas ibn Malik, from the Prophet ﷺ who said — and my father said: Yahya ibn Sa'id narrated to us, from Shu'bah, from Qatadah, from Anas — that the Prophet ﷺ said: "Do not make things difficult for yourselves, lest Allah makes things difficult for you. A people made things difficult for themselves, and Allah made things difficult for them." Then he recited: "But the monasticism which they invented for themselves — We did not prescribe it for them." [Al-Hadid 57:27]
