حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ وَحَجَّاجٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي شُعْبَةُ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ قَتَادَةَ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ جَمَعَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْأَنْصَارَ فَقَالَ أَفِيكُمْ أَحَدٌ مِنْ غ
َيْرِكُمْ فَقَالُوا لَا إِلَّا ابْنُ أُخْتٍ لَنَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ابْنُ أُخْتِ الْقَوْمِ مِنْهُمْ قَالَ حَجَّاجٌ مِنْ أَنْفُسِهِمْ فَقَالَ إِنَّ قُرَيْشًا حَدِيثُ عَهْدٍ بِجَاهِلِيَّةٍ وَمُصِيبَةٍ وَإِنِّي أَرَدْتُ أَنْ أُجِيزَهُمْ وَأَتَأَلَّفَهُمْ أَمَا تَرْضَوْنَ أَنْ يَرْجِعَ النَّاسُ بِالدُّنْيَا وَتَرْجِعُونَ بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَى بُيُوتِكُمْ لَوْ سَلَكَ النَّاسُ وَادِيًا وَسَلَكَتْ الْأَنْصَارُ شِعْبًا لَسَلَكْتُ شِعْبَ الْأَنْصَارِ

English Translation
Muhammad ibn Ja'far narrated to us, Shu'bah narrated to us; and Hajjaj said: Shu'bah narrated to me, he said: I heard Qatadah narrating from Anas who said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ gathered the Ansar and said: "Is there anyone among you who is not of you?" They said: 'No, except a nephew of ours.' He ﷺ said: "The nephew of a people is of them." Then he said: "Indeed, the Quraysh have just recently left their jahiliyyah (pre-Islamic state). I wanted to console them and win their hearts. Are you not pleased that the people go away with worldly goods while you go home with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?" They said: 'Yes.' He ﷺ said: "If the people took one path and the Ansar took another, I would take the path of the Ansar."
