Hadith #290

حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْ
نِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَقِيلٍ عَنْ جَابِرٍ قَالَ الظُّهْرُ كَاسْمِهَا وَالْعَصْرُ بَيْضَاءُ حَيَّةٌ وَالْمَغْرِبُ كَاسْمِهَا وَكُنَّا نُصَلِّي مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْمَغْرِبَ ثُمَّ نَأْتِي مَنَازِلَنَا وَهِيَ عَلَى قَدْرِ مِيلٍ فَنَرَى مَوَاقِعَ النَّبْلِ وَكَانَ يُعَجِّلُ الْعِشَاءَ وَيُؤَخِّرُ وَالْفَجْرُ كَاسْمِهَا وَكَانَ يُغَلِّسُ بِهَا

English Translation
Waki' narrated to us, from Sufyan, from 'Abdullah ibn Muhammad ibn 'Aqil, from Jabir (رضي الله عنهما), who said: Dhuhr prayer is [named] after its [time], and 'Asr is bright and lively, and Maghrib is [named] after its [time]. We used to pray Maghrib with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, then leave and still be able to see where our arrows landed [from the remaining daylight].
