Hadith #317

حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ أَخْبَرَنَا أَيُّوبُ عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ جَابِرٍ أَنَّ رَجُلًا مِنْ الْأَنْصَارِ يُقَالُ لَهُ أَبُو مَذْكُورٍ أَعْتَقَ غُلَامًا لَهُ يُقَالُ لَهُ يَعْقُوبُ عَنْ دُبُرٍ لَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ مَالٌ غَيْرُهُ فَدَعَا بِهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ مَنْ يَشْتَرِيهِ مَنْ يَشْتَرِيهِ فَاشْتَرَاهُ نُعَي
ْمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ النَّحَّامُ بِثَمَانِ مِائَةِ دِرْهَمٍ فَدَفَعَهَا إِلَيْهِ وَقَالَ إِذَا كَانَ أَحَدُكُمْ فَقِيرًا فَلْيَبْدَأْ بِنَفْسِهِ وَإِنْ كَانَ فَضْلًا فَعَلَى عِيَالِهِ وَإِنْ كَانَ فَضْلًا فَعَلَى ذَوِي قَرَابَتِهِ أَوْ قَالَ عَلَى ذَوِي رَحِمِهِ وَإِنْ كَانَ فَضْلًا فَهَاهُنَا وَهَاهُنَا
Isnad Chain
English Translation
Isma'il informed us, Ayyub informed us, from Abu al-Zubayr, from Jabir (رضي الله عنهما) that a man from the Ansar called Abu Madhkur freed a slave of his named Ya'qub to take effect after his death [tadbir], and he had no other property. the Messenger of Allah ﷺ summoned the slave and said: 'Who will buy him?' Nu'aym ibn 'Abdullah al-Nahham bought him for a certain price. the Prophet ﷺ gave the price to his master and said: 'Start with yourself and spend on yourself. If there is surplus, then on your family.'
