English Translation
Isma'il, meaning Ibn 'Ulayyah, narrated to us, Hisham narrated to us — and 'Abd al-Samad narrated to us: Hisham narrated to us — and Kathir ibn Hisham narrated to us: Hisham narrated to us — from Abu al-Zubayr, from Jabir (رضي الله عنهما), who said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Close the doors, tie the water-skins, cover the vessels, and extinguish the lamps, for Shaytan does not open a tied water-skin, nor open a door, nor uncover a vessel. If one of you cannot find anything except to place a stick across his vessel and mention the name of Allah, let him do so. And the mouse may set the house ablaze over its inhabitants.'
