Hadith #80

حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ حَدَّثَنَا ثَابِتٌ عَنْ أَنَسٍ أَنَّ رَجُلًا سَأَلَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى
اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَعْطَاهُ غَنَمًا بَيْنَ جَبَلَيْنِ فَأَتَى قَوْمَهُ فَقَالَ أَيْ قَوْمِ أَسْلِمُوا فَوَاللَّهِ إِنَّ مُحَمَّدًا لَيُعْطِي عَطَاءَ مَنْ لَا يَخَافُ الْفَاقَةَ وَإِنْ كَانَ الرَّجُلُ لَيَجِيءُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَا يُرِيدُ إِلَّا الدُّنْيَا فَمَا يُمْسِي حَتَّى يَكُونَ دِينُهُ أَحَبَّ إِلَيْهِ أَوْ أَعَزَّ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ الدُّنْيَا بِمَا فِيهَا

English Translation
Affan narrated to us, Hammad narrated to us, Thabit narrated to us, from Anas (رضي الله عنه), that a man asked the Prophet ﷺ for something, and he gave him sheep filling the space between two mountains. The man went back to his people and said: 'O my people, accept Islam! For by Allah, Muhammad gives like one who does not fear poverty.' And indeed, a man would come to Islam wanting nothing but worldly gain, yet before long Islam would become dearer to him than the world and everything in it.
