Hadith #82
Arabic Text
حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا ثَابِتٌ وَحُمَيْدٌ عَنْ أَنَسٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَرَّ بِمَقْبَرَةٍ
لِبَنِي النَّجَّارِ فِي حَائِطٍ وَهُوَ عَلَى بَغْلَةٍ شَهْبَاءَ فَإِذَا هُوَ بِقَبْرٍ يُعَذَّبُ فَحَاصَتْ الْبَغْلَةُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَوْلَا أَنْ لَا تَدَافَنُوا لَسَأَلْتُ اللَّهَ أَنْ يُسْمِعَكُمْ عَذَابَ الْقَبْرِ

English Translation
Affan narrated to us, Hammad narrated to us, he said: Thabit and Humayd informed us, from Anas (رضي الله عنه), that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by a graveyard of Banu al-Najjar in an orchard while riding a grey mule. It suddenly shied, and the Prophet ﷺ said: 'Who knows the people of these graves?' A man said: 'O Messenger of Allah, they are people who died in the Jahiliyyah.' He said: 'Were it not that you would stop burying one another, I would ask Allah to let you hear the punishment of the grave that I hear.' Then he turned to us and said: 'Seek refuge in Allah from the punishment of the Fire.' They said: 'We seek refuge in Allah from the punishment of the Fire.' He said: 'Seek refuge in Allah from the punishment of the grave.' They said: 'We seek refuge in Allah from the punishment of the grave.'
