حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ أَبِي عَلِيٍّ الصَّيْقَلِ عَنْ قُثَمِ بْنِ تَمَّامٍ أَوْ تَمّ
َامِ بْنِ قُثَمٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ أَتَيْنَا النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ مَا بَالُكُمْ تَأْتُونِي قُلْحًا لَا تَسَوَّكُونَ لَوْلَا أَنْ أَشُقَّ عَلَى أُمَّتِي لَفَرَضْتُ عَلَيْهِمْ السِّوَاكَ كَمَا فَرَضْتُ عَلَيْهِمْ الْوُضُوءَ

English Translation
Muʿāwiyah ibn Hishām narrated to us, saying: Sufyān narrated to us, from Abū ʿAlī al-Ṣayqal, from Qutham ibn Tammām — or Tammām ibn Qutham — from his father (رضي الله عنه) who said: We came to the Prophet ﷺ and he said: 'What is the matter with you that you come to me disheveled? Groom yourselves so that you may be like a beauty mark among the people. Indeed, Allāh does not love obscenity or acting obscenely.'
