Arabic Text
حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ يَقُولُ اقْتُلُوا الْحَيَّةَ وَاقْتُلُوا ذَا الطُّفْيَتَيْنِ وَالْأَبْتَرَ فَإِنَّهُمَا يَلْتَمِعَانِ الْبَصَرَ وَيَسْتَسْقِطَانِ الْحَبَلَ قَالَ فَكُنْتُ لَا أَرَى حَيَّةً إِلَّا قَتَلْتُهَا قَالَ لِي أَبُو لُبَابَةَ بْنُ عَبْ
دِ الْمُنْذِرِ أَلَا تَفْتَحُ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَكَ خَوْخَةٌ فَقُلْتُ بَلَى قَالَ فَقُمْتُ أَنَا وَهُوَ فَفَتَحْنَاهَا فَخَرَجَتْ حَيَّةٌ فَعَدَوْتُ عَلَيْهَا لِأَقْتُلَهَا فَقَالَ لِي مَهْلًا فَقُلْتُ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَدْ أَمَرَ بِقَتْلِهِنَّ قَالَ إِنَّهُ قَدْ نَهَى عَنْ قَتْلِ ذَوَاتِ الْبُيُوتِ

English Translation
Yazīd narrated to us, saying: Muḥammad ibn Isḥāq informed us, from Nāfiʿ, from Ibn ʿUmar (رضي الله عنهما) who said: I heard the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ on the minbar saying: 'Kill snakes, and kill the one with two stripes and the one with a short tail, for they cause blindness and miscarriage.' He said: ʿAbdullāh [ibn ʿUmar] used to kill every snake he found, until Abū Lubābah ibn ʿAbd al-Mundhir told him that the Prophet ﷺ had forbidden killing the house snakes (jinnān). So he stopped.
