English Translation
'Ali ibn Ishaq narrated to us — and 'Abd al-Wahhab and 'Attab narrated to us — 'Abdullah informed us, 'Umar ibn Salamah ibn Abi Yazid al-Madini informed us, my father narrated to me, he said: I heard Jabir ibn Abdullah (رضي الله عنهما) saying: My father was martyred on the day of Uhud and left behind six daughters and a debt. When the time for harvesting the dates came, I went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: 'You know that my father was martyred at Uhud and left behind a heavy debt. I would like his creditors to see you.' He ﷺ said: 'Go and pile up each type of dates separately.' I did so and called him. When the creditors saw him, they began pressing me harder. When he saw what they were doing, he went around the largest pile three times, then sat by it, and said: 'Call your creditors.' He kept paying them until Allah settled all my father's debt. I would have been content for Allah to settle my father's debt without my taking a single date to my sisters. But Allah preserved all the piles intact.
