حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ عِيسَى قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي مَالِكٌ عَنْ سُمَيٍّ عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ هِشَامٍ عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ

عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَمَرَ النَّاسَ بِالْفِطْرِ عَامَ الْفَتْحِ وَقَالَ تَقَوَّوْا لِعَدُوِّكُمْ وَصَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ قَالَ الَّذِي حَدَّثَنِي لَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِالْعَرْجِ يَصُبُّ عَلَى رَأْسِهِ الْمَاءَ مِنْ الْعَطَشِ أَوْ مِنْ الْحَرِّ ثُمَّ قِيلَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ طَائِفَةً مِنْ النَّاسِ قَدْ صَامُوا حِينَ صُمْتَ فَلَمَّا كَانَ بِالْكَدِيدِ دَعَا بِقَدَحٍ فَشَرِبَ فَأَفْطَرَ النَّاسُ

English Translation

Isḥāq ibn ʿĪsā narrated to us, he said: Mālik informed me, from Sumayy, from Abū Bakr ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn al-Ḥārith ibn Hishām, from some of the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ, that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ ordered the people to break their fast in the year of the Conquest while they were marching to Makkah. He said: 'Gather your strength for your enemy.' He broke his fast and the people broke their fast.
