English Translation

Abū ʿĀmir ʿAbd al-Malik ibn ʿAmr narrated to us: al-Mughīrah ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān narrated to us, from Abū al-Zinād, he said: al-Muraqqaʿ ibn Ṣayfī narrated to me, from his grandfather Rabāḥ ibn al-Rabīʿ — the brother of Ḥanẓalah al-Kātib — that he went out with the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ on a military campaign, and leading his vanguard was Khālid ibn al-Walīd. Rabāḥ and the Companions of the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ passed by a woman who had been killed by the vanguard. They stopped to look at her and marvel at her form, until the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ caught up with them on his mount. They parted for him and he stopped over her and said: 'This woman was not one who would fight.' Then he said to one of them: 'Catch up with Khālid and tell him: Do not kill women or hired laborers.' Ibrāhīm ibn Abī al-ʿAbbās narrated to us: ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī al-Zinād narrated to us, from Abū al-Zinād: al-Muraqqaʿ ibn Ṣayfī ibn Rabāḥ informed me that his grandfather Rabāḥ ibn al-Rabīʿ informed him that he was with the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ — and he mentioned the hadith. Ḥusayn ibn Muḥammad narrated to us: Ibn Abī al-Zinād narrated to us, from his father, from al-Muraqqaʿ ibn Ṣayfī ibn Rabāḥ — the brother of Ḥanẓalah al-Kātib — he said: my grandfather informed me that he went out with the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ — and he mentioned the hadith. ʿAbd al-Razzāq narrated to us: Ibn Jurayj informed us, he said: I was informed, from Abū al-Zinād: Muraqqaʿ ibn Ṣayfī al-Tamīmī testified regarding his grandfather Rabāḥ ibn Rabīʿ al-Ḥanẓalī al-Kātib that he informed him that he went out with the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ on a campaign — and he mentioned the like of the hadith of Ibn Abī al-Zinād.
