Abū al-Naḍr narrated to us: al-Ḥakam ibn Fuḍayl narrated to us: Yaʿlā ibn ʿAṭāʾ narrated to us, from ʿUbayd ibn Jubayr, from Abū Muwayhibah — the freed slave of the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ — he said: The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ was commanded to pray for the people of al-Baqīʿ, so the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ prayed for them one night three times. On the second night, he said: 'O Abū Muwayhibah, saddle my mount.' So he rode and I walked until he reached them. He dismounted and stood over them and said: 'Congratulations to you for what you are in compared to what the people are in. Tribulations have come like pieces of dark night, each one riding upon the other, the last worse than the first. So congratulations to you for what you are in.' Then he returned and said: 'O Abū Muwayhibah, I have been given — or he said: I have been offered the choice of — the keys to what will be opened for my Ummah after me and Paradise, or meeting my Lord.' I said: 'May my father and mother be your ransom, O Messenger of Allāh, tell me!' He said: 'It would go back on its heels as long as Allāh wills.' So I chose meeting my Lord عز وجل.' He did not remain more than seven or eight days after that until he passed away ﷺ. Abū al-Naḍr once said: 'Go back on its two heels.'
