English Translation

ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Mahdī narrated to us: Muʿāwiyah ibn Ṣāliḥ narrated to us, from Rabīʿah ibn Yazīd, he said: I heard Wāthilah ibn al-Asqaʿ say: I heard the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ say: 'Indeed, the greatest of fabrications are three: that a man fabricates regarding his own eyes, saying "I saw" when he did not see; that he fabricates regarding his parentage, being attributed to other than his father; or that he says "He heard me" — meaning the Prophet ﷺ — when he did not hear from me.'
